IN GREAT ■
Will Pause in Celebrating
Peace to Bow in Memory
of Those Who Died.
PARADE A FEATURE
Hundreds of Organizations
Have Prepared Programs
of Observance.
San Antonio i« prepared to receive
back upon its streets Friday her sons
in khaki who three years ago that
> day were responsible when the enemy
. flan of truce was unfurled and peace
on earth proclaimed.
In the midst of its noisy din that
will herald the march of these Ameri-
cans who live to attest that victory
the city will pause and facing west-
ward bow iii reverent memory of those
who sleep in Flanders field and tell
their tale of victory with a simple lit-
tle cross.
Armistice day in Han Antonio will
mean probably the greatest turnout ot
■ people with a common cause since
the day on which peace was originally
declared. It will find the soldier and
the ex-soldier together with their other
brethren of the service joining with tbe
civilian in celebration of a pence they
both won in time of war. Business
men for the most part will clone their
establishments either for the entire day
or partially so. Schools will dcckire full
holidays as well as will banks.
With tbe hundreds of enlisted men
and officers stationed at army posts
here many ot whom are veterans from
tbp late war the occasion will likewise
be a holiday. Daily routine will be
. dispensed with end special exercises
substituted among all men of the ser-
vice. Details of them will be dispatched
for a position to the downtown parade.
Parade Will Be Feature.
Foremost among [dans of observance
for the day is the parade which will
form at the postoffice on Avenue D with
I the column's head resting st Ninth
street and will move westward on Hous-
ton street. fta personnel will incluue
distinguished soldiers naval and ma-
rine officers ex-servire men and civil-
ians numbering between 2000 and 5000.
Maj. W. B. Tuttle will be grand mar-
sbal.
As a decided feature it Is probable
that the Mexican artillery band of M
pieces will be in Hen Antonio for par-
ticipation when the column moves. Orig-
inally scheduled for a performance in
Little'Bock Ark it was learned the
organisation nould not complete Its trip
and would remain until fui ther orders
at Laredo.
Upon this Information Chairman T.
G. Martin of the arrangement commit-
tee wired to Laredo urgently requesting
in the name of the American Legion
that the band come here for the cele-
bration. With tbe request wa- a rec-
ommendation from the local Mexican
consul. Ham Brldon and others of in-
. fluence here. An answer had not been
received Thursday morning.
Tbe line of march for tbe parade witl
be as follows; Forming on Avenue D.
move west on Houston to Hanta Boss
avenue; south on Hanta Bn.a to West
Commerce; east ca West Commerce to
Alamo plaxa; north on Alamo plaxa to
Avenue D where tbe parade will dis-
band.

or more is efpeoted in which to allow
it to completely pass.
Exactly at 10:30 o'clock tbe column
will bait upon signal bands will atop
their mush- pedestrians will mat to
attention and uncover and ax buglers'
corps sound “taps" every face will turn
westward in silent honor to America's
hero dead. Tbe tribute will last one min-
ute.
Each year graves of returned so-
diers in burial places in and near the
city are refreshed with new flowers and
as many bodies hive been M-nt back to
San Antonio from tbe battlefields since
last Armistice day cemeteries are ex-
pected to be the scenes of many quiet
but impressive attentions.
Though perhaps not stepping with the
same rhythm of mirch as their grand-
sons of the khaki the gray of tbe Con-
federccy will have a not unimportant
position wh< n the adranoe unit in th<
parade steps forward. Their ranks
dwindle fast with tbe passing of each
year and automobiln will convey them
through tbe streets.
Prominent among the exereixe* will
be tbe program to be given at the
Alamo. When the American legion
section reaches Ahmo plaza the bend
of tbe column will be turned east and
will form in front of the Alamo. Ea< h
unit will close in front of tbs historic
old building snd when the psrsde has
completely cleared all ex-service men

march with this unit.
Marching to the rear of Alamo post
another unit will be beaded by a band.
In it will follow men of tbe BGtb Divi-
sion approximately 1000 veterans of
tbe "Fighting Ninetieth" division which
is bolding its reunion here beginning
Friday ; allied troops veterans of for-
eign were Bi»anisb-American war vet-
erans and servics men doing recruiting
duty here. This will embrace the army
nary and marine corps. All ex-navy
men have been asked to communicate
with recruiting headquarters relative to
instructions for parading.
A cadet section of local high school
boys and Boy Heouta will be a feature
of the parade. They will number 5(10
or more boys. Foreign societies will
msreh as the concluding unit.
Attention of tbe public to tbe plac-
ing of flowers upon tbe casket of each
American soldier's body returned by
way of Han Antonio will be directed
during tbe parade. An immense Ameri-
can flag will be spread and carried in
the line of march. Contributionx to the

Before Governor Neff could answer.
Mrs. Eugene Baglev of Daitas was

the institution. It was referred to tbe

Answering another question Gover-
nor Neff re-iterated bis view that "gooel
prison commissioners not a change iu
laws" are what we need to keep things
right in tbe penitentiary. He said be

ordered the chains nbolisbed after
seeing them used oue time.

purposes has been interwoven tbe pur-

he became convinced that the lad's
death was "but the outgrowth of a

shall be in tbe presence of the super-
intendent aud that no employes of tbe
school shall use tobacco or intoxicanta

lated. Neff asserted.
"For these reasons I came to the
conclusion that a clean sweep should
be made at the school.” declared the
governor. The convention again ap-

speaking before them Tuesday after-
