FRENCH WINE MAKERS
ARE DISCONCERTED
OVERDRY AMENDMENT
“American Day” of Paris
Week Observed by Meet-
ing of Distillers.
By the Aswhim) Frew.
I'aris .March 15.—“ American day” of
France's national wine week was mark-
ed by some interesting discussion orer
the eighteenth amendment to the Consti-
tution of the United States and appli-
es! ion of the law foTtrning prohibi-
tion.
The day which ojened rather inaus-
piciousiy owing to the report of the
presiding officer Baron D'Antbouard
expressing thet opinion that prohibiten
in America bad come to stay aid that
France must look to other markets
brightened up with the statement of If.
Dastous president of the Canadian sec-
tion of the British Chamber of Com-
merce in Paris that Canada's market
might open up and a report from Jules
J*faivre^ minister plenipotentiary that
South America was destined to become
one of the largest fields for wine ex-
ports from France in the next few
years.
All of the official reports upon the
wine situation in the United States
and wine exports from France to that
country were careful to say that there
must be no interference with the in-
ternal laws of the United States.
Delegates representing the wine grow-
ers howerer in open discussion after
the reports had been read were em-
phatic in their declaration that some
way must be found to circumvent pierce
vr jump over "the wall of prohibition
surrounding the United States.”
