MCKINNEY — Go to any Allen Eagle bas-
ketball game, and you will consistently see
the same faces. As the season goes on,
everybody will be able to recognize and
point out the Eagle coaches, players, and
perhaps some of their biggest fans.
But there is somebody else who will
always be in attendance at the Eagle games,
but you may not notice him. Next time your
at an Allen game, take a peak at the scorers’
table. There you will find Allen senior Shane
Crawford and his trusty laptop computer,
providing running statistics for the Eagle
players and coaches.
Crawford got started tracking statistics
when he was 12. It was then that he saw a
web site on the Internet through his
America On Line account. The site was for
STATS, Inc., which keeps running, up-to-
date statistics of professional sports leagues,
including the National Basketball
Association, the National Football League,
Major League Baseball, and the National
Hockey League.
Crawford noticed STATS was looking for
reporters, and he was hooked.
“I saw they were looking for people to
report on basketball games in Dallas,
Vancouver, and Miami, so I tried it,”
Crawford said.
So during the basketball season, a repre-
sentative from STATS will contact Crawford
with a list of games to cover. Crawford, who
watches all the games from home via the
NBA League Pass from DirecTV, keeps up to

depends on whose playing and when they
(STATS) need me.”
For the Eagles, Crawford keeps the statis-
tics on a program that was provided by the
school, and while Crawford enjoys his work,
he isn’t too keen on the software. But it is
sufficient to allow him to keep the informa-
tion he needs.
“I basically just keep makes and misses,
points, rebounds, assists, and steals,”
Crawford said. “But, it (the program) would
be a lot better — if I had programmed it,”
Crawford admits.
And that is just what Crawford hopes to
do. After he graduates this May, Crawford
will attend Texas A&M University, where he
hopes to major in computer science. And, oh
yeah, you guessed it. Crawford also hopes to
be able to do the stats for the Aggies’ bas-
ketball teams.
“Hopefully, they’ll (Texas A&M) let me do
it,” Crawford said. “I’m also going to try and
do some (Houston) Astros’ games over the
summer, as well.”
But for now, Crawford is content to help
the Eagle coaches with his services at the
games. And while he will continue to score
NBA games from home, you can be sure
that any time the Eagles have a game,
Crawford will be there.

Lady Cougars
finish fourth at
Best Maid Classic
The Colony posted a 1-2
record over the weekend at
Fort Worth’s Best Maid
Classic. The Lady Cougars
lost to Dallas A. Maceo Smith
50-44 in the consolation semi-
finals on Saturday morning.
The game started at.9:30
a.m. and Osborne said his
team didn’t come out with
much intensity. He blamed his
team’s slow start on himself.
“The kids are going to fol-
low the coaching staff’s lead,”
he said. “And it’s our job to get
closely by Stueber who
scored 16.
“It was a good game for us,”
Osborne said. “We were
ahead enough that it gave us a
chance to get a lot of people
playing time.”
In the opening round, the
Lady Cougars fell to
Southlake Carroll 55-49 in a
hard fought game on
Thursday. Carroll got out to
an 11-0 lead two minutes into
the game, then the Lady
Cougars played the Lady
Dragons even the rest of the
game.
“They got off to a great
start scoring on their first four
possessions,” Osborne said.
‘We kept up with them, but
just ran out of gas at the end.
