ditioned to live in the familiar.
The familiar has become safe
and secure, although at times
frustrating and confining.
Any life change may trig-
ger this entry into our abyss.
Moving to a different city,
changing jobs or letting our
children live their own lives
are all common changes that
require a readjustment. Many
life changes challenge us to
look within.
What happens when we
enter the abyss? Many of us
don’t see the opportunity that

us may display our armor of
toughness, while others raise
our hands in despair and fall
victim to life’s circumstances.
Whatever our defense, we
voraciously struggle to exit
the unknown and find a safe
haven.
We may then draw the con-
clusion that living beyond the
known is wrong or bad. As
we search, in this anxious
state, we often make deci-
sions that are not in our best
interest. We may later regret
what we have done and false-
ly conclude that we are s
wrong or bad.
This anxiety marks an
opportunity to change and
move beyond the known.
Reaching within offers us the
light to see beyond the
known. It’s an opportunity
that may present itself often
until we find that special
place of security. When we
begin to live within the power
of our heart, nothing will
quite be the same again. We
no longer become controlled
by circumstances of change.
There is a deep sense of
knowing that we are OK
regardless of what happens.
As hard as we may try to
live in clarity and certainty,
the unknowns of life are
always there to guide us to
our power. This is the power
of adulthood, the power of
wisdom and the power of our
true heart. It is the power we
all possess.
