first-round HFA
On Monday, the UIL
passed an amendment to
create a pilot program pro-
viding home field advan-
tage to the higher seed in
the first round of the Class
6A football playoffs.
The amendment, which
was passed down during
the UIL’s biannual meetings
held in Round Rock, was
unanimously approved by
the council and will take ef-
fect for the 2015 postseason
if signed by the state’s Com-
missioner of Education.
Under the pilot pro-
gram, the higher seeded
team would still have the
option of playing at a neu-
tral site, including venues
that regularly house playoff
games like SMU’s Ford Sta-

Cougars outlast Centennial in double-overtime thriller

Four quarters weren’t
enough to determine a winner
in Friday’s District 9-5A show-
down between The Colony and
Frisco Centennial.
The two teams played a
back-and-forth game that ulti-
mately ended with the Cougars
taking a 65-55 double-overtime
| victory.
“At any point in that game,
we could have just given up and
quit,” said Cleve Ryan, The
Colony head coach.
The Colony forced a first
overtime after overcoming a
nine-point deficit late in the
fourth quarter. Fueling the
comeback was the 18-point ef-
fort from junior guard Zack
Giles, who knocked down six 3-
pointers in the contest.
“We were down and so we
had to start pressing,” Ryan
said. “Luckily, we were able to
make some plays.”
Centennial took a 41-32 lead
with 3:50 remaining in the
fourth after a layup from junior
forward Jonathyn Washington. Brennen Jones had posted 16 points in a double-overtime win Friday over Frisco Centennial.
