North Texas and Austin theaters, will be showing a Pakistani

WANT TO GO?
What: "Moor" screening
When: Jan. 17 at 5 p.m.
Where: Angelika theater, 7205
Bishop Road, Plano
“Moor” at the Angelika theater, 7205 Bishop Road, Plano.
Set against the backdrop of the deliberately engineered de-
cline of the railways system in Pakistan, “Moor” is a story
about the meaning of loyalty - to one’s land, one’s family and
one’s principles.
When his wife dies unexpectedly, Wahid; a poor train station
master of a small, remote town in Pakistan, must come to
terms not only with her death and his own childhood personal
demons, but also his complicity in the events that led up to it.
The eternal moral conflict between money, tradition and
progress is at the heart of Moor, a film that began on a train
and took eight years to make. The film puts Balochistan’s
scenery on the map. Listed as “dark horse” for Oscar by Holly-
wood reporter for winning the Academy Award, Moor tells a
compelling story of corruption and capitalist aspirations.
Writer and director Jami Mahmood will be in attendance
after the screening for a discussion.
