In a world where everyone
is a text or Facebook message
away, postcards seem to be go-
ing by the wayside. Wakeland
junior Austin Champagne is
bringing them back with his
business, Post Cardinal Club.
It started out as just an
idea he was throwing back and
forth with his dad. Post Car-
dinal Club’s website launched
around November, and Cham-
pagne is getting a crash course
in company ownership.
The company, run entirely
by Champagne, allows custom-
ers to purchase vintage post-
cards with their choice of mes-
sage typed out via typewriter.

Officials say tax rate
would be in line
with recent rates
From PAGE ONE
pointed,” parent Amelia Palmer said after the
board unanimously voted to call the election
without the elementary project on the list.
“The community and the children deserve
to be served. And now they’re going to be scat-
tered.”
District officials have said the students will
be taken care of regardless of what campus
they go to, but because of how early it is in
the process, specifics have not been released.
Palmer said she sees a negative impact on the
schools these students will be going to.
“There are 600 students with no place to
go,” Palmer said. “They’ll be placed at cam-
puses that are at or near capacity.”
Board Vice President Tracy Scott Miller
said the Hedrick decision was a tough one for
all board members.
The rebuild was projected to cost about
$34.1 million. But Miller said the decision to
leave it off the list wasn’t about money.
Miller said the site’s size makes it difficult
to build both schools there to the quality the
district wants.
PROPOSED ITEMS
Among the items that are included in the
bond package are a new career center, possi-
bly adjacent to the LHS Harmon campus, ex-
pansion of Career Center East, a rebuilt Col-
lege Street Elementary and a new elementary
school on Josey Lane.
The package includes $99.1 million to give
students and teachers the same level of tech-
nology access they have now.
There is also a multi-purpose facility for
both Hebron and The Colony high schools on
the list, which would give all five high schools
an arena.
Items also include renovation of existing
facilities, in some cases for possible acade-
mies.
An indoor practice facility and an im-
proved outdoor practice facility at Hebron are
on the list.
Plans also call for additions/renovations
for middle school and high school music de-
partments.
The list of items came from a recommenda-
tion from the Facilities Advisory Committee, a
group of 89 residents and staff members.
