Does Not Inteud to Resign and Does Not
Fear tjuperseduro.
Marshal Gosling in conversation with the
Lir.iiT commissioner inlormcd him that he
had no intention of resigning his position and
had no reason to believe that he would be
superseded. The rumor had its origin in an at-
tempt made in Austin by one or two individ-
uals tb circulate a petition for his removal
lie had tried to do his duty fearlessly and
well and should continue to do so whilst he
held the office.
The Light has watched carefully the con-
duct of the Marshal and is bound to say that
he has faithfully and with dignity diicharged
the duties attached to his office. Not only
has he actively and ditcreetly supervised his
office and officers but he.has individually
worked hard for the public good. Marshal
Gosling is a good officer and any attempt to
remove him is an injustice and an in-
jury to thecommunity.
Tho Wnssou Case.
Major Wasson is preparing an address to
the court martial which is to hear his case on
the 6th inst. It is stated that while he pleaded
guilty to having embezzled $5400 which is
or will be paid he repudiates stealing the
Si 800 last on the Texas and Pacific railroad.
The officers refused to give definite informa-
tion and as the details are received from an
indirect and unofficial source they might be
accepted for what they are worth
The Major is comfortably quartered and
every attention is paid to him consistent with
his safety.
A Geomotrlenl Angler.
Mr. Wright went out to fish and he became
a Wright angler. lie thought he would try
and catch a shark and became a try angler
lie laughed to think how smart he was and
became a' cute ancler. But he did not see
the shark with his note under the stern of
the cralt he was such an obtuse nngler until
the creature tipped over his boat when he
became a wrecked angler.
