Day before yesterday a colored hackman In
the employ ot Colonel Story while driving
some women between 6 and J o'clock on
Eighth street ran over two colored boys.
JJoth were hurt badly one having a severe
fash In his head and th other being bruised
up concrally. Yesterday the father Charles
Long a carpenter came dow'n to the police
court and made a complaint at the same time
offering a reward of $J0 to whoever found
out the name of the driver. Officer Chadwell
immediately - set to work and discovered
Charles Devan to be the man. Chadwell
told the father ol his discovery and Long said
he would stick to his word. Colonel Story
says Devan has gone to the country but on
his return Officer Drown will serve him with a
summons.

Thrown Out.
A painful accident is reported as having
occurred to Mr. Thomas I'alm father-in-law
to Justice Adam. He was out driving yester-
day In a two-wheeled cart when the harness
gave way the cart lilted and Mr. Palm was
thrown out by which his head was gashed
and one of his fingerl injured.
Lawyers Uterpuylnga Contractor.
Mcsirs. Harrison & Harrison sued IJarney
O'Connor in Justice Adam's court this morn-
ing for ihe recovery of the sum of $So over-
paid on contract. The delendant elected to
have the case tried by jury and the case was
therefore adjourned until this afternoon.

During the past few days an elderly German
has been engaged in digging out a cellar on
Ilium street fully eiposed to the sun's rays
and yet he has had no coveting to his head.
Either the digger must have a remarkably
thick cranium or he must be impervious to in-
solation otherwise he could not stand the in-
fluence of Sol's rays.

Yesterday evening Officer llishop while in
deep meditation was touched on the shoulder
by a man. He turned and beheld an Irish-
man very much the worse for liquor.
" What is it ?" asked Bishop.
"Some man is throwing slones at Mrs.
McCarly's gsble end" replied the Irishman
"What's the matter with you?" said the
officer.
" What's the matter with me ! what's the
s'matter with you t" replied the man stagger-
ing away leaving the officer nonplussed con-
founded and roaring with laughter.

At a meeting of the Quartermaster General
United States army a Hoard of Survey to con-
sist ol Captain E. G. Fechet Eighth cavalry
Captain G. F. Towle Nineteenth infant!)-;
First Lieutenant T. II. Eckerson Nineteenth
Inlantry will meet at Fort Clark Texas at 10
o'clock a. m. on Auguit 16 1883 to ascer
tain the value of certain articles for which
Captain O B. Boyd Eighth cavalry is said
to have failed to account on his return of
Quartermaster's stores for the second quarter
1881 while Post Quartermaster at Fort Clark
Texas. A list of articles will be furnished the
board.
Death Hy Insolation.
The article that appeared In yesterday's
issue with the above heading states that Dr.
BoKen was In attendance which was amis-
take. He was called and from the husband's
statement thought the case hopeless. When
he arrived at the iosolated woman's residence
he found another physician in attendance who
did not Invite him in to see the case hence he
did not enter the house.
Dr. Bowen reports a patient on the same
street similarly affected who has now entirely
recovered alio a case on South Flores street;
the patient Is still under his treatment. The
latter is up and about but is still quite
idiotic.
llo Wanted to Argue-.
Officer Chadwell saw two men coming
down Commerce street last night one leading
the other and when opposite the officer they
separated and the officer saw one of them was
drunk. Ladies and children were driven off
the sidewalk by his successive lurches from
side to side so Chadwell arrested him. On
being arrested he exclaimed "let's argue
this." " What" said Chadwell? "You'se
thinks me drunk; I haven't drank a drop for five
years." With that he dropped on the side-
walk and would have gone to sleep had not
the policeman kindly showed him the way to
jail where he and Chrysler prepared a defense
tor Ihe morning.

The British association have decided to
make their sociables more attractive for the
members and to admit any lady or gentleman
who cares to spend a pleasant evening with
them. The first sociable under the new
arrangement will be held in Struve's hall this
evening at 8 o'clock and the following well-
known local artists have kindly consented to

Is better now.
The sidewalks have keen burled on Blum
street and Street Commissioner Hunl Is now
busy digging them up.
The School Superintendent Is busily en-
gaged In examining candidates for teacher-
ships In the public schools.
Mr. lido Khodius has withdrawn the
charge he made against the colored man
Morris and he has been released.
Ad. m Fisher and Adcle Jonas have said
the awful "I will" in the presence of Justice
Adsm and are now man and wife.
Elsewhere in this issue ol the Light will
be seen the advertisement of Caen's French
Dyeing and Scouring establishment.
Mrs. Redmond mother of Mr. George
Redmond died yesterday and her remains
were sent home to Kentucky this morning.
The accomplished Miss Zella De Hymel
sister cf Justice De Hymel has accepted a
position of teacher in the San Juan school
community.
Mr C. Gessi's suit against l!. Michael for
forcible entiy and detainer was dismissed.
The same fate befrl P. W. Seffel's action of a
like character against Mr. Fisk.
There will be a private social given to
night at the residence of Mr. L. D. Murphy
by some of San Antonio's charming young
ladies. It will no doubt be a grand success.
Old Chrysler paid another $5 fine this
morning. He has sworn faithfully to leave
the city to-day but lie will hive to steer clear
of the "last chance" saloon or he will find
himself in his usual resting' place the bat
cave.

Troublesome Colored l'cople
1". W. Wade a colored man complained
last night to Officer Blthop "lhat his next
door neighbors had been sweating at and
abusing him badly he had been 111 all day
day and could not stand it would the officer
go around with him." Bishop accompanied
by a Light reporter repaired to the spot and
there found Mrs. Dina Tucker and Mrs.
Wade together with their respective families
in a general melee. Mrs. Wade said that
Mrs. Tucker called her all kinds of names;
said she was lower than a dog and ought to
have her teeth knocked down her throat.
The row began about Mrs. Tucker's children
going Into Mrsi Wade'j jard. After some
difficulty ihe officer got the angry parties Into
their housesthreatening to arrest them should
any more noise be heard.
Comity Cumml. .loners' Court.
The County Treasurer reported the receipt
of $8 result of sales of confiscated hides
sold by the County Hide and Cattle In-
spector. Sundry minor bills were then approved.
The Babcock road matter was discussed
and the preposition for compromise in refer-
ence to damages submitted by It. Tournat
accepted and a commission was appointed to
assess the damages of property lying on the
remainder of the line of the road.
The court appointed Charlie Donaldson as
overseer of the Babcock road.
The Sheriff then presented a petition to the
court for Ihe' allowance of a reasonable
amount for the services of one of his deputies
who had been In constant attendance on the
board during Its present protracted session.
The petition of Louis Bergttrom for recon-
sideration and reduction of his assessment
was dented. The board adjourned till to-
morrow at 0 o'clock.
