CHRISTMAS WISHES
by the
THOUSAND
The message of the manger is
joy; not a superficial happiness,
but rather the joy to know God
is with us and loves us. Thirty
three years later we see this
child of Bethlehem hanging on
the cross, still confident in the
shadow of death that nothing
could separate Him from the
joy in the fellowship with God.
See Him taken from the cross a
bruised, broken man, His cause
lost, His disciples scattered; His
life snuffed out by hate and in-
justice. But that is not the end,
only the beginning; for joy is
born in sorrow and life in death.
The message of the manger is
courage and faith. And how the
world and we all need it today!
When have we needed courage
to face life more than now? And
working faith. When in history
has faith in goodness and right,
and justice and human decency #
been more severely tested? Will
love at last triumph over hate,
will justice dethrone injustice,
that right will be the victor over
might? How we need a strong
faith! Faith in God, an almighty
loving God is the message of the
manger. And the message of the
manger is Peace! “Peace on
Earth!” So far people refused
this peace. And the message of
the manger is sacrifice: “For
God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish but have ever-
lasting life.” God sacrificed most.
Come to the manger, you, who
are sorrowful; there is a message
of joy.
hearts. They feel their sins and
wish to be good.
Yes, we come' like the shep-
herds of old, with awe, that the
Almighty God could send his
Son to earth, the supreme mira-
cle of God and man joined—Awe
is the product of fear and love.
The shepherds experienced fear
and then loye and gratitude fil-
led their hearts. We are humb-
led and penitent before God’s
supreme act.
The message of the manger
says to us as it said to the shep-
herds then: purity is and will be
throughout eternity. We all
view the temporary innocense in
the eyes of little children. Christ
was born pure and remained
pure. We know that no taint of
the world spotted him. He over
came the world. He never sold
his soul for the greed of money,
nor did he make himself prison-
er to envy and strife. The mes-
sage of the manger tells us that
we too can be pure through His
power. We too, can overcome
the world.
Come to the manger, you, who
have lost heart and whose faith
lags; there is a message of cour-
age and faith for you there.
Come to the. manger, all who
long for peace, for there you will
receive peace, that passeth all
understanding: “My peace I will
give you” says the Christ.
Come to the manger all who
desire the secret of life, for there
you will receive the message of
sacrifice.
O, come let us adore Him,
O, come let us adore Him,
O, come let us adore Him,
Christ, the King!

serve as a constant reminder
that the lives of little children

up our turk,
The cakes and the pies all went
the same way,
And there wasn’t much left at
the end of the day.
As I started out to go to bed in
the hay,
I saw Mamma had quitely faint-
ed away.
—Pearl Waits Teel.
’Twas the day before Christmas
when all through the house,
Everybody was stirring, yes, even
a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the
chimney with care,
In hopes they’d dry before the
company got there.
The children, in the kitchen,
were crowded about,
Waiting to scrape the pan when
the cake was out.
And Mama, in her apron, was
rushing around,
Trying to cook everything that
could be found,
When out in the driveway there
arose such a clatter,
We ran to the door to see what
was the matter.
Away to the porch I ran like the
wind,
To see the car that had just
driven in.
When, what do you think my
wondering eyes should see,
But a load of kin-folks as happy
as could be,
With a little old driver so jolly
and gay,
I knew in a moment he’d come
to stay.
More rapid than bird-dogs the
kinfolks they came,
And they hollered and shouted
and called us by name.

My wife called on a Blue
Ridge Mountain woman who
was the mother of nine children
and was expecting the tenth
within a few days. “I sure am
tired of having babies,” the wo-
man complained.
“Then why don’t you stop?”

At every Christmas season
men and Women, and youth ap-
proach in their spirits the man-

they near the sacred place, their
blustering, noisy lives become
quiet. Greed for power is stil-
led; the grasping for the world
goods is at least . momentarily
halted. They are humble and
reverent before the goodness and
purity in the manger. They are
in the sanctuary of God’s love.
