Methodist Church Dedicated Sunday.
At an early,hour Sunday morning
the people began to assemble at the
Methodist Church to be present at the
dedication and hear the dedicatory ser-
mon preached by one of their old
pastors, Rev. E. M. Wisdom, now pas-
tor at Ranger, and by the hour for ser-
vice to begin the house was well filled.
The ladies had decorated the pulpit
and platform with evergreens and
flowers which gave it a beautiful and
attractive appearance. At the proper
time the pastor called the trustees to
the front to occupy seats which had
been provided for them in front of the
chancel to .be ready to present the
Church for dedication at the close of
the sermon. Rev. E. M. Wisdom took
the stand and selected as the founda-
tion for the sermon Isaiah 56:7,
taking as his theme the purpose and
mission of the Church, and proved
himself equal to the occasion. For
about one hour he held the attention
of the large congregation without a
break, and many have been the favor-
able comments upon his sermon and
it was well merited for it was truly a
great sermon in its appropriateness,
thought and spirituality. At the
close of the sermon the house was
formally dedicated and set apart to
the service and worship of God and
from all unhallowed purposes. For
nine years a debt has been hanging
over the church which has been the
cause of much anxiety, but now it is
off and the burden has been removed,
and it surely brings joy and satisfac-
tion to the hearts of every Methodist
as well as many others. Bro. Nichols,
the pastor, has worked hard and
faithfully to get the Church out f
debt and have it dedicated before he
. left for Conference and deserves credit
and commendation for the success he
has made, and he should be sent back
here next year he will have this bur-
den off his hands and will be able to
give more attention and work to other
lines of church work.

the Normal to the tune of 7-0.
Meridian stepped on the Jinx’s tail
that has been following us all season
and upset both the “dope” and the
Normal at the same time. The work
of the Meridian eleven was a revela-

the Normal backs could not make a
substantial gain through Meridian’s
line.
The day was a good one for foot

crowd was out to see the game. The
game started with the Normal kick-

About noon Monday this writer was
invited by his pastor to go home that
he wanted to eat dinner with me, and
I told him that I had already eaten

found a crowd already there and Rev.

good things to eat about fifty dollars.
This company was made up of people
from Fairview and Iredell, both mem-

surprise, but I want to say to those
good people that they have a warm
place in the heart of this old preacher

have had for more than forty years
and it will never cease. I would like
to mention all their names, and would
do so, but have not some of the names
and do not like to mention a part of
them without all. Will say however,
that the Fairview people were a large
factor, perhaps the largest, and we
want them all to know that we ap-
preciate this gift, both for its value
and the love and friendship it shows.
We could mention some of the leaders
arid the largest contributors, but they
are known, but we appreciate the
smaller donations as well as the lar-

of it. May the blessing of God rest

Public School Opened.
The Public School opened here Mon-
day with an encouraging attendance,
there being about ninety .per cent of
enrollment present, and. a fairly good
attendance of patrons and others. A
very nice program had been prepared
and was carried out under the direc-
tion of Mrs. Alma Cavness, superin-
tendent. Several speeches were made
and several musical numbers rendered.
Mrs. Cavness took hold of the situa-
tion like an old and experienced, super-
intendent and it appears from the way
she took hold that she will be equal to
the demands as well as the other
teachers. The faculty is composed of
ladies, but they have been tried and
have shown, themselves to be teachers
of a high grade. If they get the sup-
port they ought to have, we predict
known the boy all his life and so far
as we have ever known he is a clean
young man and we predict that he
will do well. Miss Durham is a daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Durham who live
near here. Mr. Durham has not lived
there very long, but we have never
heard anything but what was com-
mendable to the family and we are
sure that Mr. Owen has made a wise
choice in the selection of a life part-
ner. The many friends of this young
couple follow them with wishes and
hope that they will have smooth sail-
ing over the sea of life, and when the
sun of life is sinking behind the west-
ern horizon they can look back upon
a life well spent, and feel that the in-
fluence they put in motion will help
others. >
ing the third quarter however, after
M. C. lost the ball on a fumble, the
High School succeeded in completing
a long forward pass and making the
first touch-down of the game. They
failed to kick goal. After this the
scrubs received, and carried the ball
to the ten-yard line before the whistle
blew for the last quarter.’ At the
first of the fourth quarter Davis made
a line buck through left tackle for a
touch-down, afterwards kicked goal.
The ball was in the middle of the
field, in the scrub’s possession, when
the whistle blew. Final score 7 to 6.
The game was snappy from start
to finish. The High School made
most of their gains through forward
passes, while the continued line
plunges of Davis for the Scrubs made
the gains for the College.
Davis was the individual star for
the Scrubs, making the only touch-
down for them and winning the game
by kicking goal.
