Annual Meeting
The annual meeting at College Station was a good one. Attendance at this
meeting included 81 people from 14 different- agencies and/or Universities. These
include Texas A&M University, University of Texas, Stephen F. Austin University,
Southwest Texas State University, Soil Conservation Service, Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Texas Agriculture Extension
Service, Texas Electric Service Co., Private Consultant Co., Oklahoma Coop. Fish
Res. Unit, Public School Teacher, Department of Human Resources, and National
Marine Service. Many thanks go to Richard Noble and Texas Chapter of the APS
for their organization of the annual meeting and fish fry social.
The proceedings of this meeting will be printed and provided to all Texas
Chapter members. This publication should be available by January 1980.
Dues
Now is the time to pay your annual dues. If you find a red beside your
name on this mailing label, you are in our records as having paid your 1980 dues.
If not, you may send the convenient, attached application along with your check.
An effort should be made by each member, when the opportunity arises, to
acquire new members. If you know of someone who wants to join, send me their name
and address. Membership in our parent society is not a prerequisite for joining
the Chapter.
A membership directory will be prepared this year and distributed to all
members. So get your dues in now to eliminate any problems.
MINUTES
'BUSINESS MEETING
TEXAS CHAPTER, AFS--
SEPTEMBER 29, 1979 COLLEGE STATIONThe fifth annual meeting was called to order by President Bobby Whiteside.
Secretary Allen Forshage Ctermined a quorum of 20 members were present. Dr. Whit
welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked Dr. Richard Noble for his making of
arrangements for the meeting at Texas A&M University. Thanks was also given to th
A&M Chapter of the AFS for their help with the meeting and for the fish fry social
Introduction of Dignitaries - Welcome 4& given by Charles Cichra, (President,
Texas A&M Chapter of the AFS), Wallace G. Klussman (Head Department of Wildlife
and Fisheries, Texas A&M University) and Perry L. Adkisson (Vice-President for
Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, Texas A&M University).
Secretary-Treasure's Report - Presented by Allen Forshage who made a motion t
except the minutes of the 1978 San Marcos meeting as presented in the October news
Number 10. The motion was second and approved by voice vote. The secretary repor
membership in the Texas Chapter increased to 123 members during 1979. The balance
at audit on September 26, 1978 was $656.80. Dues since collected amounted to $371
Total expenditures were $646.10 leaving a cash balance of $382.22. The mAjor
expenditures during the year was for publication and distribution of Annual Procee
of the Texas Chapter Meeting ($387.27). The second greatest expenditure was assoc
with reproduction and mailing of four newsletters ($134.39). Other expenditures inr
refreshments for the 1978 meeting ($99.25), bank service charges ($3.15), and for
stationary ($7.25).
Audit' Committee Report - Chairman Billy White was not present, however, Dr.
Whiteside indicated he had received a report which verified the Secretary-Treasure
report and the report was adopted.
Membership Committee Report - Chairmen Dale Caldwell was not able to attend t
meeting. Major accomplishments by the membership committee include an effort to
Texas members of the American Fisheries Society and encourage them to join the Tex
Chapter. The American 'Fisheries Society currently has 243 members in Texas, only
of whom are members of the Texas Chapter. The membership committee mailed each of
243 members an invitation to attend the 1979 Annual Meeting and join the Texas Chzeside
