the Culture Award for his work with the culture of Tilipia, catfish, and freshwater
shrimp. In addition, he has recently published a book entitled Principles of Warmw
Aquaculture. Research Award was given to Phil Durocher (TP&W) for his work with th
ADP system to compile and analyze data for the Inland Fish Branch of the Parks and
Wildlife Department. Gary Valentine (S.C.S.) received the management award for his
work with the Soil Conservation Service fish stocking program and for his training
of other SCS representatives in the area of pond management. Dr. Richard Noble rec
the Education Award for his work at- A&M University. In his 7 years at A&M he has b
very active and productive in the field of education and fishery research. Charles
Inman (TP&W) received the Special Catalog Award for his work with the TPWD. During
his 25 years with the Department, he has planned and implemented numerous projects
impacting the State's fishery resources. Included in this is his work with pond
management, work with the diseases and parasites of warm-water fishes, research wit
Florida largemouth bass and management and protection of the public waters of the
Nominating Corittee Report - Clell Guest acted as chairman this year and offered
thanks to Joe Lock and Ralph Manns for their help in the selection of new officers.
Nominations for President-elect were Charlie Inman and Don Steinbach, for Secretary
Treasurer were Gary Valentine and Allen Forshage. Charles Inman was chosen Preside
elect and Allen Forshage, Secretary-Treasurer.
Farm Pond Stocking and Management Policy Committee Report - Don Steinbach presented
committee's report. He recognized Charles Inman and Gary Valentine who work with 1
committee. A hand-out which discussed pond stocking techniques was provided.
Editorial Committee Report - Jim David thanked everyone on the editoral committee 1
their help in our first publications of the Chapter's proceedings. He also thanke
Nick Carter and Bill Rutledge for their work in getting the 1978 Proceedings print
He indicated the editoral board of the Chapter will be responsible for setting
guidelines and approving papers to be published in the proceedings. He brought to
attention that at least one of the authors must be a member of the Chapter to have
paper published.
Old Business:: Past President awards were presented to Bill Rutledge and dames Da
New Business: Secretary-Treasurer made a motion to increase annual membership dui
from $3.00 (student $2.00) to $5.00 (student $4.00). This was deamed necessary bei
of deficit spending during 1979. Approximately $5.10 was spent for each member dui
the year. At this spending rate, the Chapter would have enough money to operate di
1980 but not during 1981. The motion was second and approved by vote.Jim Davis made a motion to charge $2.50 for extra 1978 Proceeding and $5.00 for e:
1979 Proceeding. These copies are extra after free distribution to all members an
selected state and federal agencies, universities, and private enterprise. The mo
was second but was not approved by vote of members. President Richard Noble sugge
further discussion after the program.
A program of 15 papers was presented. Topics of these papers included research in
coastal and freshwater fisheries, fish culture, and work in fishery management. Ti
papers will be published in Volume II of our Annual Proceedings.
After the program, new business was continued. Dr. Whiteside made a motion to stu
present and up-coming cost of the publication of Proceeding and free distribution.
The purpose of the study would be to determine the most economical way to provide
members and fill request for copies of the publication. The motion was second and
approved by membership vote.
A second motion was made to adopt the Farm Pond Stocking and Management Policy CoMI
Report and distribute it to agencies involved with pond stocking and management.
