Public ity Report : Jimmy Dean is still working on free advertising for
a "package deal" of sale of proceedings. No bites sb far but he's still
fishing.
Editorial Committee: The Proceedings have been printed and are at
A&M now. I will pick them up Memorial Day and begin distribution. We will
try to distribute as many as possible in person in order to save postage.
If any of you are going to be in Austin sometime soon after Memorial Day
please let me know and Gary Matlock and I will arrange to get your copy to
you in Austin.
Pond Management Report: The Chapter bulletin entitled "Stocking and
Management Recommendations for Texas Farm Ponds" is being distributed by
Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Ag. Extension Service and Soil Conservation
Service. TPWD and SCS have published copies of the bulletin in their
print shops for distribution. The Ag. Extension Service is doing the same
thing, however, in order to have the publication distributed onia routine
basis to county extension agents, it is necessary to include the extension
logo on the front of the publication (see attached example). A statement
crediting the Texas Chapter with publication of the bulletin is included
on the inside cover. Don Steinbach has requested permission to publish
the bulletin in this format as it will increase his ability to get the
information out to the general public. Bill Rutledge, Chairman of the
Farm Pond Management Committee, is requesting Chapter input regarding this
matter. Please write Bill and voice your opinions on this matter. No
response will be interpreted as a favorable vote and Don will be authorized
to proceed with the publication in this format.
News From the National: Ed Harrison wrote to us that .The Environmental
Concerns Committee of the American Fisheries Society is canvassing each
chapter for nominations of National or local issues suitable for development
of position papers. In this time when concern for the environment seems to
be waning, our participation in this effort is especially important.' I
can think of several 'local' and national topics for concern - such as the
proposed use of part of Nueces Bay for dredge spoil disposal and the attitudes
of water authority bodies concerning leaving adequate brush in new reservoirs.
Keep this call for responses in mind for discussion at the Annual Meeting.
A glossary of Fish Health Terms, produced by the Fish Health Section of
AFS will be sold out soon. There are less than 60 copies left of this $5.00
publication available from the Central Office of AFS, 5410 Grosvenor Lane,
Bethesda, Maryland 20814.Student Housing for the AFS Annual Meeting at Hilton Head, S. C. September
22-25 is being coordinated by the Fisheries Educators Section under the
chairmanship of Dr. Mike Van Den Avyle at the Georgia Coop Fishery Unit,
University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602. Several villas will be available
adjacent to the Hyatt at Hilton Head. The Fishery Educators hope to persuade
"fisheries universities" to rent a villa at the weekly rate, then fill it
with as many students as possible. This could cut costs considerably. Contact
Dr. Van Den Avyle if you're interested.
An AFS Recreational Fisheries Section is taking shape under the direction
of Dr. Bob Goldstein, 4818 North Hill's Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27616.
The Fisheries Administrator's and Fisheries -Management Sect-ion -have
joined forces in planning for a nationwide Urban Fishing Symposium in 1983.

Conference of Mayors, The National League of Cities, The National Recreation
and Parks Association, U. S. Corps of Engineers and The U. S. Chamber of
Commerce. No address was included but if you're interested you could write
the AFS Central Office at the address mentioned above.
