Stcckmen and Farmers Say
Precipitation Came at
Right Time.
Timed almost to the hour a kindlj’
providence is seen in the rains which
fell over the state during the past few
days saving millions of dollars to
Texas farmers and ranchers.
The rnins did not help—they saved
the year.
This is the statement made Thurs-
day by agricultural and live stock
authorities who said the rain could
not have come at a more opportune
time if a successful “rainmaker - * had
charge of the situation.
Thousands of acres of oats had just
about quit growing and were given a
new lease on life according to Ike T.
Pryor stockman and ranch owner. A
matter of a few more days without
rain he said would have meant the
failure of the crop.
BENEFITS RANGES.
Benefits to the ranges of the South-
west he said cannot be estimated
sit’-e the rain came just in time to
save the spring weeds and grass that
mean success or failure to cattle rais-
ers.
The real benefits of the rain to
farmers according to Fred Maliy
agricultural secretory of the Chamber
of Commerce can be realized when
it is understood that they made it pos-
sible for spring crops to germinate
and make a good stand.
Orchards because of the rain he
said will now produce fruits that will
cling to tho trees and mature instead
of fall as they 'do in dry years.
GOOD SEASON IN LAND.
Season put into the ground by the
rain Mr. Maliy said is almost perfect
for the crops such M cotton and
grain sorghum which arc planted
about the last of March.
Truck crops less than any other
were affected little by the rain in
the opinion of J. Austen Hunter
radio market news specialist.
While it is estimated that 350
more cars of spinach will be made in
the Austin section of the state on ac-
count of young plants that were
started growing he said it is likely
this will be offset by a too rapid
growth of spinach in the lower part
of the state. Sunshine following the
rain. Mr. Hunter said may cause the
plants there to go to seed before they
can be marketed.

fore it causes another serious flood

The new pack formed from big

thermite bomb was discharged in the
jam. When the chemicals exploded
there was a noticeable heave in the
pack but it failed to move out.
