Mu Omega Preceptor Chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi took place August 4 in the
home of group President Betty
Swarner.
Mrs. Swarner welcomed all mem-
bers to a new sorority year, and Kathryn
Churchill distributed the 1995-96 year-
books.
A social hour followed with Mrs.
Swarner serving brunch to Genevieve
Bowe, Verna Edgemon, Mrs.
Churchill, Loretta Eilers, Evidna
Green, Virginia Polfus, Mabel
Shotwell, Mildred Twenhafel and
Lucile Schwarz.
On September 11, the sorority will
meet in the home of Mrs. Churchill,
with Mrs. Schwarz presenting the pro-
gram.

School Class of 1976 — Bicentennial

COUPLE MARRIES — Roxanna Daly and Ray Gonzales were
united in marriage in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony August 5 at the
Cimarron Country Club. Judge Fernando Mancias performed
the double-ring ceremony. The bride is a social worker em-
ployed by the Mercedes Independent School District, while the
bridegroom is a sales manager for Varmicon Industries. The
couple will make their home in Mission.
'Bag' deadline here
Deadline for turning in items to go
in Welcome Bags to be given soon to
new public school teachers is noon
this Thursday.
The Mercedes Chamber of Com-
merce presents the bags at the start of
each school year to those new to the
district. This year’s distribution will
come at 9 a.m, August 11, at new
teacher registration scheduled for the
school board meeting room.
Merchants and others are invited
to donate items for the bag. In the past.
such items as pens, pencils, key rings,
litter bags, letter openers, combs, maps,
gift certificates, bumper stickers, bro-
chures and a copy of The Enterprise
have been given.

in quantities of 30. a
To be included, items should be
delivered to the Chamber of Com-
merce office at City Hall by noon on
Thursday, August 10. Those needing
for items to be picked up should call

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED — Tomas and Teresa Perez of
Weslaco announce the engagement of their daughter, Teresita
D., to Rolando Renteria, son of Hortencia Renteria of Mercedes
and the late Reynaldo Renteria. The couple will be married in a
7 p.m. ceremony, August 12, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in
Weslaco. A graduate of Weslaco High School and the University
of Texas - Pan American, the bride-elect is employed by State
Farm Insurance. A Mercedes High School graduate, the pro-
spective bridegroom is pursuing a BSN degree at UTPA.
