Standings in men’s basketball and
co-ed volleyball leagues being con-
ducted by the city’s recreation depart-
ment have been posted by Director
Nando de Leon.
In the basketball league, the team
sponsored by Attorney Juan Gonzalez
heads the standings with an 8-1 record.
Tied for second are the Chidester
Marlow and Wolfpac teams, at 6-3,
while tied for the next spot are KIWW
School Menu
and B’s Party Favors, at 5-3.
Bringing up the bottom of the stand-
ings are the Wildcats, at 4-5, Auto
Business Air and the Heart Clinic, at
3-6, and the Rugrats, at 1-8.
In volleyball, the Juan’s Welding
team and the Vipers are tied for first at
6-1. They are followed by Dominguez
Welding at 5-2.
In a tie at 4-3 are Longoria’s Con-
struction and Knapp Medical, while
knotted at the bottom at 1 -6 are McAfee
Agency, B’s Party Favors and Silver’s
Construction.

REP. COMMISSIONED AS MAJOR — State Representative Miguel D.
"Mike" Wise of Weslaco was commissioned a major in the Judge Advocate
General section of the Texas State Guard in ceremonies at Camp Mabry,
Austin on June 26. Presiding at the commissioning ceremonies at the
headquarters of the Texas Military Forces was the Adjutant General of
Texas, Major General Daniel James, III, assisted by Major General Leroy
Sisco, commanding general of the Texas State Guard. Major Wise has
served in the Texas House of Representatives since 1997 and was
instru mental i n the passage of a n u mber of measures sought by the Texas
Military Forces during the last Legislative session. Major Wise had
previously served in the Texas national Guard as an infantry officer,
attaining the rank of captain. In civilian life, Major Wise is an attorney in
Weslaco where he and his wife, Erin, live with their three sons. The Texas
State Guard is a volunteer military organization of the State of Texas,
ready to respond to a call from the governor in times of natural or human
emergencies or to assist the citizens of the state, following the call-up of
the Texas National Guard into federal service.

SECOND PUBLIC HEARING
The second Public Hearing will be held on August 31,1999 at the following sites:
Tract No. I — 9:00 a.m. on site Mile 21/2 East and South Expressway Frontage Road;
Tract No. II — 10:30 A.M. at La Herencia Apartments;
Tract No. III — 1:30 P.M. at Llano Grande Lake Park West;
During these Public Hearings, the Public has the right to express their opinions
regarding the proposed annexations.
