ERMAN M. NEWMAN, 79 of El Paso, TX
died Sep. 21, 1988. He served with 141st Inf.
and landed at Salerno as S-3 of 1st Bn. He
remained in the Army and saw service in
Korea before he retired as a Colonel.
Graveside services were conducted in Fort
Bliss National Cemetery with military
honors on Sep. 26th. Obit forwarded by Col-
onel Vincent M. Lockhart of El Paso.
WILLIAM F. PLIES, age 70, of Grandview,
TX passed away Oct. 1, 1988 at Harris
Hospital in Fort Worth. He served with Co. A
142nd Inf. as a Staff Sergeant and was
awarded the Silver Star. He retired in 1976
after 24 years as an agent for Metropolitan
Life Ins. Co. Obituary was forwarded at the
request of his widow - Francine Plies.
JAMES H. "HERB" GALLMAN, 75, of
Allen, TX died of cerebral hemorrhage Sep.
13, 1988 at St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo.
He served with Co. H 141st Inf. until cap-
tured and held prisoner in Germany.

ALFRED W. SCARTOZZI of Henderson,
NV who served with Btry. A 132nd F.A. pass-
ed away July 18, 1988 in Humana Sunrise
Hospital in Las Vegas after a long illness
due to vascular problems. Reported by his
widow - Fran, who says he was very proud
of his unit and that his time with the 36th
Div. came into their Conversations quite
often.
W.J. WALKER of Rome, GA and Co. H
142nd Inf. died Mar. 3, 1988 as reported by
Johnny Barnes (A 131), and Dusty Rhodes of
Grinwell GA of Co H 142nd.
PAUL L. ROYSTON, 64 of Co. I 143rd Inf.
died of cancer on June 17, 1988 in his home
at 113 Walnut Circle, Bristol, TN. He was a
certified public accountant and who held of-
fices in several professional societies and
civic organizations as well as being an elder
in the Presbyterian Church. The obituary
was sent in by his wife - Dorothy Turner
Royston.
HENRY N. WILKINS of Hq. 2/132nd F.A.
of Italy, TX was reported deceased August
23, 1988 by the U.S. Postal Service. Wilkins
also served in 133rd FA and the 636 TD Bn.
ROBERT J. ELLERBROOK of Co. B 142ndInf. passed away January 22, 1988 in
Winston-Salem, NC reported by Barbara
Davidson the Secretary of Eastern Chapter
Co. B 142nd Inf.
JOSEPH MATKO of St. Clairsville, OH
also of Co. B 142nd Inf. died April 18, 1988 is
another reported by Barbara Davidson of
Friendship, NY.
LAURENT J. COX of Cecil, PA a member
of Medical Detachment 141st Inf. died June
1, 1988. Reported to LenWlk by his widow.
THOMAS C. WILLIAMS of Greenville, TX
who served with Co. M 144th Inf. was
reported deceased August 8, 1988 to
Leonard Wilkerson at the San Antonio Reu-
nion.
JOHN L. HOLDER age 67 of Co. M 142nd
Inf. of Wichita Falls, TX died in the Dallas
V.A. Hospital on July 4, 1988. Sent in to
LenWlk by Norma and Watler R. Smith -
same unit of Conroe, TX.HOWARD SHERER of Jasper, AL who
served in Hq. 131st F.A. died June 6, 1988.

KENNETH MAX DEAN, age 77, of
Circleville, OH passed away Oct. 5, 1988. He
served with Co. H 142nd Inf and was a
member of the local T Patch Breakfast Club.

LEON E. CRY of El Campo, TX who served
with Hq. 1/143rd Inf. died Sep. 10, 1987 as
reported by Joe H. Miller (36 Sig.)
STEPHEN DANKOW of Syracuse, NY
who served with 36th Signal Co. died Nov. 9,
1987. Also reported by Joe H. Miller of same
unit.
LEONARD S. TESTON, age 72 of Sweet-
water, TX who served with Co. E 142nd Inf.
died at his home on Sep. 2, 1988. He was a
former Nolan County Justice of the Peace, a
farmer, and a member and Past Post Com-
mander of the V.F.W. Submitted by Amil F.
Kohutek (C-132).
KENNETH MAX DEAN, Co H 142nd died
Oct. 5, 1987 at Circleville OH, was member
of Buckeye T-Patchers Breakfast Club of
Columbus, sent in by Bill Eberle, A-133rd.
PAUL A. BROOKS of 143rd Inf., died Oct
3, 1987 at Woodsfield OH, reported by his
widow Evelyn Brooks.
BERT CHANEY of Svc Co 141st died Aug.
24, 1987 in Houston, reported by Joe F.
Presnall, Hqs Co 143rd Inf.
NORMAN W. WILDE, Hqs 1st Bn 142nd
died Juiy 6, 1988 at Glidden Wis., was
member of Mid West Chapter - reported by
his widow.MARQUIS D. CARTER of Mabank, TX the
World War l1st Sergeant of Co. A 143rd Inf.
died July 30, 1988. Obituary and a letter sent
in by his wife - Pearl L. Carter - who says:
"VFW Post 4376 Honor Guards did a
beautiful job at Crown Hill Cemetery in
Dallas to help me draw down the curtain on
a beautiful 52 years with a wonderful hus-
band." Mr. Carter was the subject of a story
on page 18 of the February 1988 T-Patcher
Newsletter.
HENRY A. ZELLER of 292 No. Indiana
Ave., Watertown, NY passed away at Alex
Bay, NY hospital on July 21, 1988. He was a
member of the 141st Infantry and was cap-
tured in January 1944 at the Rapido River
and held prisoner until the cessation of
hostilities. He is survived by his wife
Kathryn, 3 sons, 3 daughters, several grand-
children, nieces and nephews. Obituary was
submitted by Paul D. Blackmer of Co. K
143rd Inf. of Potsdam, NY.
ALADIN J. HART, 90 of El Paso died July
30, 1988. He was a retired Army Colonel who
served in both World Wars. He served in the
36th Division during World War I before go-
ing to the U.S. Military Academy at West
Point where he graduated in 1920. He was a
charter member of the Military Order of
World Wars. Burial was in Fort Bliss Na-
tional Cemetery with Military Honors.

to Douglas Place of Harlengen by Mrs.
Dorothy Schwarzkopf of El Paso who for-
warded to the Association.WILLIAM L. HUFF of Can/Co 142nd pass-
ed away Dec. 24, 1987 at Cincinatti OH,
reported by his daughter to Walter Bischoff,
his buddy of Crestville FL.
JOE R. COLEMAN of Co. F 142nd Inf. of
Athens, AL died August 15,1988 following a
long illness. Reported by Johnny Barnes of
Btry. A 131st F.A. and Hueytown, AL.
GORDON K. ROCKEY, 64 of AT CO. 143rd
died July 12, 1988 as reported by his widow
- Alyce who lives at 802 E. River St., Spring
Lake, MI to Del Kendall of same unit who
