The rains came and the 1967
commencement exercises were
held in the Gym on May 29, 1967
as 80 graduates received their dip-
lomas from Dr. H. R. Willard,
President of the School Board.

Inda Proske, valedictorian, gave
the farewell address while Sarah
Barton welcomed the audience, as
salutatorian,

Dr. Pat H. Norwood, Professor
of Education at Southwest Texas
State, San Marcos, gave the com-
mencement address.

No undue strain will be placed
on classroom size when the Post
Oak students enter next school
year. The enrollment spread from
grades one through twelve ranges
from 5 to not more than 12 in any
single grade.

The earned ADA for Post Oak
during 1966-67 will be transferred
to Giddings for 1967-68. This
ADA is more than 60 pupils and
will result in 3 C. T. U.s (tea-
chers) being added to the Giddings
staff for which the state will supply
the salary in its entirety.

A group of citizens met in the
Blue Bonnet Coop Auditorium
Thursday p.m. on June 2. The
purpose of this meeting was to dis-
cuss the possibility of a lighted
baseball field for Giddings, which
would be used by the high school
and other community teams.

Mrs. Pauline
Brown Retires
Mrs. Pauline R. Brown, area
program specialist and staff as-
sistant, Texas Agricultural Ex-
tension Service, retired on May
81.
Mrs. Brown began her Extension
career in 1933 as home demon-
stration agent in Gregg County,
In 1942, she was named district
agent and in 1946, supervisor of
home demonstration work was
added to her title. In 1964, she
was named to the position she
held at the time of her retire-
ment.
Mrs. Brown was presented the
U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
Superior Service Award in 1965;
the Dallas County Home Demon-
stration Council Leadership Award
in 1964, Prairie View Alumni As-
sociation Achievement award in
1963 and that same year was elec-
ted to serve on the USDA Semi-
nar dealing with low income fami-
lies.
The retiree is an active mem-
ber of the American and Texas
Home Economics Associations;
Texas State Teacher’s Associa-
tion; Epsilon Sigma Phi (Exten-
sion fraternity); Beta Epsilon
Chapter Kappa Omicron and Sig-
ma Gamma Rho Sorority.
Mrs. Brown is a native of Smith-
Ville; a graduate of Giddings High
School, and holds both B.S. and
M.S. degree from Prairie View
A & M College.
