THE BIBLE
Solid Ground
Dorcas Circle treated to
stone soup; officers installed
Only a living Christ can
save us from our sins
Who is Christ?
There are many people throughout
the world who believe in a historical
Christ who lived and died But they
consider Him to be a prophet like
Elijah or Elisha
However, in the past decade or so
a new group of so-called "believers”
have emerged who think of Christ as
something inside each of us - the
Christ within our heart and soul
They are called "New Agers” and
their belief is spreading fairly
rapidly throughout this nation and
even around the world There are
even whole bookstores in most
larger cities that specialize in New
Age materials
What many of these New Agers
claim to believe and are taught
through their literature is that Christ
is within all of us and that we are all
"the Christ.” They consider all
human beings to be God in the flesh,
just as Jesus claimed to be God in
the flesh
Those who believe this also then
believe that they can forgive
themselves - that they can save
themselves They look on Christ as a
prophet who came with a message of
love and forgiveness - not the Son of
God who lived a sinless life and died
for the sins of all people
What makes all this so frightening
and threatening is that this kind of
twisted and perverted thinking is
growing rapidly, especially among
the younger and more educated
people in our nation and in other
countries
Our Lord and Saviour warned us of
such a time in the “latter days”
when people would be putting their
faith in a false Christ
This may be exactly what Jesus
was referring to when he said, “For
many will come in my name, saying,
‘I am the Christ,’ and lead many
astray” (Matt. 24:5).
What are these New Agers saying?
That they are the Christ. That you
are the Christ That we are all the
Christ. That Christ is within us That
we are all God in the flesh That we
can therefore forgive ourselves and
save ourselves
This isn't the gospel or good news
that Jesus brought to this earth. It is
a false doctrine wrapped in the name
of Christ and presented in such a
way that it can even lead those
astray who claim to be Christians
Jesus warned about "false
prophets" who would try to lead us
astray (Mark 13:22). They are here
today in “sheep’s clothing" preach-
ing about another Christ
Can there be another Christ
besides the real one? The Bible tells
us that there can and there will be
other “Christs.”
In 2 Corinthians 11 4 the Apostle
Paul warns us about being deceived
by someone who “preaches another
Jesus than the one we preached ”
And God’s Word tells us that
"many” will be decieved by these
teachings
The God of the Bible and the
Messiah who became “God in the
flesh" is a Living God - not just
some loving thought or feeling inside
us that makes us feel good and at
peace.
The God of the Bible is the One,
who with the Word (Jesus), was
present when the universe was
created and who has no beginning
and no end - who created all
mankind in the image of God.
It is this same God who so loved
sinful mankind that He sent His only
Son to live and to die and to
overcome death and the devil so that
all of us could someday live with God
forever.
When Jesus was on this earth, He
asked His disciples, “Who do men
say that the Son of man is?" (Matt.
16:13).
And they said, "Some say John the
A comment made in jest was taken
seriously and the result was a
delicious, low-cal soup supper for
members of the Dorcas Circle of
Immanuel Lutheran Church
While preparing vegetables for
relish trays for the Riske Lunsford
wedding, it was suggested that the
“scraps” be saved and made into
Stone Soup, based on the children's
book by the same name
Newly-elected president Annette
Menzel liked the idea and invited the
crusts and heels of the bread used
for sandwiches for the wedding
Final approval for the soup was
given as the members went back for
seconds!
During the meeting Rev. Robert
Koenig installed the new officers:
Annette Menzel, president; Marge
Sheffield, first vice president;
Janice Droemer, second vice presi-
dent, Kelly Pampell, third vice
president; Rose Fritsche, secre-
tary; and Renee Kieschnick, treas-

He said to them, “But who do you
say that I am?” Simon Peter
replied, "You are the Christ, the Son
of the living God " And Jesus
answered him, "Blessed are you,
Simon Bar-Jona "
Who do you say that Jesus is? Do
you believe like many of those who
lived in Jesus’ day that He was just a
prophet? Or do you believe like the
New Agers that we are all the
Christ?
This is why we must speak boldly
and confess without any doubt that
“You are Christ, the Son of the
Living God.”
Then Christ will say to us like
Simon Peter, “Blessed are you.”
And our salvation will be assured
And we will never be deceived by
false Christs and false prophets
We will then believe the saving
words of Jesus, “I am the
resurrection, and the life: he that
believeth in me - though he were
dead, yet shall he live: and
whosoever liveth and believeth in
me shall never die Believest thou
this? (John 11:25-26).
