Applications for
Wheat Loans Open
The Taylor county AAA office is
now ready to handle 1940 wheat
loans, J. Walter Hammond, com-
mittee chairman, announced yes-
terday.
Loans will be made for 65 cents
per bushel on No. 1 wheat if farm-
ers load the grain themselves in
freight cars for shipment to ap-
proved elevators at Fort Worth or
elsewhere.
If local elevators handle the ship-
ments, however, the loan is 62 cents
per bushel—the other three cents
paying handling costs, according to
Hammond.
Loans are made by the commod-
ity credit corporation for a period
of eight months. If at maturity of
the loan, the price of wheat has
risen the borrower may sell for a
profit. On the other hand, he does
not take a loss if the wheat price
declines within that period.
