Betrothal of Margaret Fagan to
Lt. L. N. Short Is Announced
Mr .and Mrs. W. D. Fagan are
announcing the engagement and
approaching marriage of their
daughter, Margaret Fagan, to Lt.
Leslie Neill Short, son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. O. Short of Lubbock, Lieu-
tenant Short is new on detached
service at Camp Wolters, Mineral
Wells, from his station at Alamo
field, San Antonio.
The couple will be married on
Sept. 9 at 6 p. m. at the First
Baptist church in Abilene.
Miss Fagan, only child of Mr.
and Mrs. Fagan, is a graduate of
Abilene high chool. She attended
Texas Technological college, Lub-
bock, where she was a freshman
class beauty nominee and held
membership in Las Chaparritas,
girls’ social club. She studied at
Hardin-Simmons university the sec-
ort semester the past year.

MURALS — in the Abilene Army air base officers club are
being painted by Lt. Hunter Gill Griffith, shown above at
work. Lieutenant Griffith, assistant public relations officer
at the air base, was a well-known New York portrait painter
On civilian life. He has exhibited abroad and in New York,
Chicago and Detroit and is now teaching a class in portrait
sketching at the First Street USO club. Lieutenant Griffith
has done research in old Western lore to get material for his
murals, which blend in with furnishings of the officers club,

Navy Fathers to Give Reports
When Mothers Club Has Party
Fathers of Navy men will be
guests of honor when the Abilene
„Navy Mothers club celebrates its
“first birthday Friday at a party
scheduled for 8:30 Friday nignt.
Aug. 27, on the patio of the Second
street USO club.
A varied program has been ar-
ranged. featuring fathers giving re-
@orts on their Navy sons.
Don H. Morris, president of Abi-
lene Christian college, will give a
devotional following presentation of
the colors, the American and the
Navy Mothers flags.
d Tom W. Gaston, chief specialist
“in charge of Navy recruiting office
here, will conduct a quiz program
with Mrs. W. J. King and Mrs.
Fred Covert, organizers of the club
here, leaders of two teams.
, Baine Lefler will give two hu-
morous readings and Jane Sage
will sing. Closing the program.
Wilma Tripp, an associate member
of the club and its pianist, will play
piano selections as refreshments are
being served.
Mrs. Jack C. Terry will preside.
On the committee for the party
are Mrs. Terry, chairman; Mrs
Adda C. Agnew, club commander;
Mrs. W. J. King, Mrs. Fred Covert
and Mrs. Buck A. Pinette.
High School Students
Will Meet at Church
First Baptist church has an-
nounced that Thursday has been set
aside as High School night through
the remainder of the summer. High
school students have been invited to
meet at the soldier center next’
Thursday between 7:30 and 8 and
later an outdoor party will be
held.

Amendment No. 31 to Ration
Order 17 Effective August 16, 1943
Section I. In order that the consumer may not be
penalized if his stamp becomes detached acci-
dentally or because he was not aware of the fact
that a loose stamp is not valid in over-the-counter
transactions, your local board may exchange your
detached stamp for a Special Shoe Stamp.
Section II. A loose stamp may be mailed in only
when the consumer has not personally selected the
shoes.
Tour cooperation will be greatly appreciated in this matter.
