With guests from a wide area of
West Texas in attendance, a ban-
quet for which the West Texas
€ Hereford association will be spon-
sor promises to make headline so-
cial news here Thursday.
The banquet is being held in con-
junction with the West Texas Live-
stock show, opening Wednesday
_ morning and continuing through
• Friday.
The party will be held at the
Abilene country club, beginning
at * o’clock, and la open to the
citizens of West Texas who are
interested in Hereford breed-
ing, Mrs. Hardy Grissom, gen-
eral chairman for the enter-
tainment, said Saturday,

Party program will include a
short talk by Hardy Grissom, asso-
ciation president; after-supper
square dancing, and a number of
features which will “provide rare
entertainment for guests, but are
not to be announced before the
party hour,’ Mrs. Grissom said
Supper reservations are to be
made with Mrs. G. O. Cresswell,
who is serving on the planning
committee with Mrs. Grissom; Mrs.
Rupert Harkrider, association sec-
retary, or Mrs. Ann O. Smart, who
is in charge of supper arrange-
ments.
Numbered among smart affairs of
the week was a luncheon for 33
guests at which Mrs Hardy Grisson
was hostess Friday at the Abilene
Woman's club
The club suite was in festice fall
dress, featuring a decoration of dog-
wood foliage in white pottery con-'
tainers. Crimson glory roses of deep
red and Countess Vandell roses in
soft pink tones.
Small white containers of vari-
colored flowers were centerpieces
for the quartet tables where guests
were seated.

Roll Call in Schools
STAMFORD, Oct. 29 —(SpD-
Junior Red Cross roll call will be-
gin in the schools in Jones coun-
ty on Nov. 1 and continue through
Nov. 15, Mrs V. D. Dubie, Junior
Red Cross chairman for the Jones
county chapter announced.
Materials were distributed In An-
son. Hamlin and Stamford this
week. Assisting Mrs. Duble are Mrs.
H. E. Stromquist of Anson and Mrs.
Arlie Cassie and Mrs. Leon Thur-
man of Hamlin. Stamford assis-
tants will be named in the next few
days.

Marriage Is Read
In Highland Church
Ir. and Mrs. Levi Thornton, 133
Meander, are announcing the mar-
riage of their daughter, Betty, and
S.-Sgt. Kermit M. Andrews, son of
F. E. Andrews of Chicago.
The marriage took place Sunday,
Oct. 24, at the Highland Avenue
Church of Christ with Cecil E.
Wright reading the service. Floyd
Dunn, soloist, sang I Love You
Truly.
Merle Mansell, mall of honor, wore
a pink chiffon dress and carried a
bouquet of pink and white carna-
tionsSgt. Cliff Davls was best man.
The bride wore a slipper satin
gown with a veil which fell from
a headdress of orange blossoms. Her
bouquet was of sweetheart roses and
orange blossoms.
A reception was held following
the ceremony at the home of Sgt.
and Mrs. Homer Allison, 766 Jean-
ette.
-Mrs. Andrews is a graduate of
the Abilene high school. Sergeant
Andrews, who before his induction
into the Army was manager of a
Safeway store in Chicago, is sta-
tioned at Camp Berkeley.

At Fort Worth Prenuptial Party
Wynona Keller of Snyder, who
will be married in November, was
complimented at a luncheon host-
ed by Mrs. John Farrell of Fort
Worth and her daughter, Mrs. Bur-
ford K. Isaacs Jr. of South Ameri-
ca, at the Fort Worth club.

Keller and Horace Greeley Ad-
ams III, Maple Hill, Kas.,
rancher, was made recently by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Keller of Snyder. The wedding
will take place In the First

among guests. Others were Dorothy
Kassel, Phyllis O’Brien, Virginia
Pontou, Suzanne O’Brien, Mrs. Jack

Mrs. Cecil Morgan, Mrs. O. E Tun-
still. Mrs. Walter Beck, all of Fort
Worth.
A gilt tea is being planned for
Miss Keller by Mrs. Wade Winston
and Mrs. Aubrey Stokes of Snyder.
Members of the new Troop 17
Brownie Scouts of Fair Park are
financing their troop and assisting
the war effort by collecting waste
fat from their neighbors and sell-
ing it.
The money will be used for ne-
cessary expenses, such as game or
song books. Some might go to help
a member pay for her uniform, or
to buy material for making articles
for a hospital.
Mrs. J. W. Hulsey is leader and
Mrs. E. L. Lofley, assistant leader.
PTA Meeting Slated
Mrs. C. B. Gates will speak on
Freedom of Normal Home Life for
a meeting of the Alta Parent-
Teacher association, to be held at
4:05 Monday afternoon at the
school. An executive board meeting
will be held at 3:30 p. m .
The party will be held at the Win-
ston home.

Fidelis Matrons
Class Has Meeting
Mrs. W. J. Caskey hosted a meet-
ing of the Fidelis Matrons class of
the Immanuel Baptist church
Thursday in her home, 625 Palm.
Mrs. H. L. Martin was co-hostess.
Mrs. J. E. Davis played piano ac-
companiment for singing, and Mrs.
R. R. Shirley gave a Scripture read-
ing. The meeting was attended by
18 members.
Miss Keller atttended the Hock-
aday school in Dallas, Texas Chris-
tian university, Fort Worth, the
University of Texas and Texas
Technological college, Lubbock. She.
has spent most of her time in Fort
Worth for the past few years. I

Isaacs, whose husband is a vice con-
