Demented Farm Hand Says
He Would Rather Be
Hanged
By United Press.
VALPARAISO, Ind., Aug. 27.—
Prosecuting attorneys said today
they would seek a penalty of life
imprisonment for Claude Delling-
er, 27, demented farm hand who
kidnaped 10-year-old Betty Ann
Foster because he loved her.
"I’d father they hanged me,”
Dellinger sobbed in his Jall cell
when asked what his defense
would be. “I don’t care what
happens if I can’t have Betty
Ann.”
The child, who was returned
here yesterday from Lake Geneva,
Wis., where Dellinger had taken
her, said she had been treated
kindly by him.
"I don’t really believe he meant
her any harm," Mrs. Foster said.
"Claude worked five years for ps
and he always was good to Betty
Ann. Probably he thought he was
doing right.”
Betty Ann’s father, Ernest.
Foster, a wealthy farmer, has
signed an affidavit charging Del-
linger with abduction. Under In-
diana laws, Dellinger must serve
the remainder of his life in prison
if the charge is proved, unless a
defense of insanity is established.
30 Persons to Be Arrested

And then the man went on his
way and left the Tinymites to
play. They found a restaurant
nearby and had a bite to eat.
When it was dessert time they got
some tasty cake and ate a lot.
The Travel Man said, "Say, don’t
stuff. That cake is pretty sweet.”
Out on the highway once again
the Tinymites all listened when
they heard a real loud tooting.
“That’s a bugle call,” cried one.
“That sort of music makes a hit
with Tire. Let’s find who’s blowing
it. Perhaps he’ll let us blow it,
too, and we’ll have heaps of fun.”
They very shortly met a band
of young boys who looked very
grand, dressed up in clever uni-
forms. Said .Carpy,, "Who are
you?" “We’re Boy Scouts," one
lad told the crowd. "Of course
that makes us all feel proud.
| You’ve surely heard of Boy
Scouts. Maybe you are Boy
Scouts, too."
