‘Mr. J' Breaks
Sprint Record
“Because he loves to run and
works hard, Benny should have
a bright future,” states Coach
George Logan.
Trackman Benny Bass was se-
lected for Mr. Jacket because of
his outstanding showing at the
district meet at Corsicana Apr.
11. He won the 440 yard sprint
with a new district record of
50.3. He was also anchor
man for the first place mile re-
lay team.
Bass is a four-year letterman
and has gone to regionals each
year.
“His competing in regionals
all four years is outstanding in
itself,” comments Coach Logan.
During his high school career,
Bass has earned 35 medals: 7
firsts, 21 seconds and 7 thirds.
He also won some medals in
junior high.
He likes the 440 best, and his
best time in it was an unofficial
50.2.
The tennis team finished its
season by winning three second
places in district play.
Richard Bryan won singles
matches over Terrell and Cor-
sicana before losing to Waxaha-
chie in the finals. Tommy Alta-
ras and Robert Mayfield in doub-
les, lost to Corsicana after de-
feating Terrell.
Barbara Rogers, girls sing-
les, defeated Waxahachie before
losing to Corsicana. Kathy Mc-
Carty and Betty Garrett did not
go to the finals; they lost to
Corsicana in their first match,
won, while Bryan lost his match.
In preliminary matches with
Irving, the matches—were split.
"four-four. Altaras and Mayfield
won, while Bryan lost his match.
In B-doubles Tommy Davis and
John Foster also won, but Ga-
len Angle lost.

ner, B-doubles, won their match,
while B-singles, Carolyn Howard,
