The man who cannot do n sensible
thing himself has lots of spare time
in which to find fault with those who
are useful in the world.
The New York Sun proposes Io
build an office building that will
eciipse anything of the kind in the
world. It is to be thirty stories high.
We trust that the Arkansas Legis-
lature will pass a bill appropriating
130000 for a suitable display ot the
State’s varied resources at the
World’s Fair.
There are nine living ex governors
of Arkansas viz: Rector Clayton
Hadley Baxter Garland Churchill
Berry Hughes and Eagle. It is
doubtful if any other State has so
many.—Ex.
The remains of Jeff Davis ex-
president of the Confederate States
will be removed from New Orleans
to Richmond ou May 30—Confeder-
ate memorial day—and be interred in
the Hollywood site selected by Mrs.
Davis.
We are skepsical as to the correct-
ness of the following from an ex-
change: “The daughters of Gov.
Hogg of Texas are named Ima
Hogg and lira Hogg while his son is
named Moore Hogg. The governor
seems to be the Educated Hogg.'
An exchange echoes our senti-
ments heretofore expressed in the
following: “If the Arkansas Lcgis
lature would provide for a constitu-
tional convention abolish the convict
lease system and then go home the
people would be surprised most
pleasantly ’’

A Minnesota legislator was soil
bard up for subject matter to place
in a bill the other day that he actual-
ly sought to prohibit women from
wearing the odious hoop skirt. His
bill prohibits the manufacture or use
of hoop-skirts in that Slate. It will
hardly pass.
Alabama now claims to be the
third largest iron producing Stale in
the Union—lllinois claims the same
honor. Pennsylvania and Ohio res- I
pec.tively stand first in the list. Os
the 10255810 tons of pig iron pro-
duced in the United States last year
the south furnished 2116986 tons!
which was more Ilian in any previous
year.
A very large part of our poverty
in the South is of our own making.
We raise but one crop and we buy
almost the entire business of the
country on the proceeds of that one
crop. Or rather we attempt to do it.
No wonder we are poor. No wonder
we find at the end of the j ear we ha . e
more losses than profits. It will al-
ways be so till we learn to “live nt
home.”—Ex.
It is the Democratic idea in tariff
reform to place the necessaries of
life on the free list together with all
raw matarials not produced in this
country and to tax the luxuries of
life. This with an income tax to
reach the monopolist and capitalist
would soon change the condition of
things and in less than five years
time we would have a prosperous
happy country.
Ur seems that there is "a bug tin- '
der the chip” in the question of an-
nexing Hawaii. Better go slow '
since it is a fact that there art} many
millions of dollars invested in sugar
growing on the Hawaiian Islands
and the United States pays a royalty
of two cents a pound on sugar cones-
quently the sugar glowers of Hawaii
want to get into the United Stales lo
secure this bounty.

not to a lack of patronage but to un-

Completely Cured by HOOD'S
SARSAPARILLA.
“ When I was 4 or 5 years old I had a scrof-
ulous sore on the middle linger of my left hand
which got so bad that the doctors cut the
finger oil and later took off more than half my
hand. Then the sore broke out on my arm.
came out on my neck and face on both sides
nearly destroying the sight of one eye also
on my right arm. Doctors said it was the
Worst Case of Scrofula
they ever saw. It was mimply itwful! Five
years ago I began to take Hood’s Sarsaparilla.
Gradually I found that the sores were begin-
ning to heal. I kept on till I had taken ten

return I got for that investment! A thou-

Health has its weight. We
cannot go far above orbelow
our healthy weight without
disturbing health. We can-
not keep health and lose our
weight.
It is fat that conics and
goes. Too much is burden-
some ; too little is dangerous.
Health requires enough
fat for daily use and a little
more for reserve and com-
fort. That keeps us plump.
The result is beauty—the
beauty of health.
A little book on careful
living shows the importance
of keeping your healthy
weight. We send it free.
