Brinkley one of Arkansas' live
and enterprising towns is soon to
have electric lights.
Senator Gorman predicts that the
cost of pensions alone will exceed
ovei $200000000 next year if the
rolls are not revised and corrected.
There are a number of good points
about Secretary of State Gresham if
he is a mugwump. He has always
been a good friend of the South—-
harbors no sectional prejudice against
us and proposes to tote fair with us
the distribution of the offices. He is
also an able conscientious statesman
who posesses in a large measure the
confidence and esteem of the whole
people.
Had Morrison Palmer or any one
of the several other other statesmen
of national reputation allowed their
name to go before the Chicago con-
vention Cleveland never would have
been nominated and we would now
have a true-blue Democrat for Presi-
dent. But each one refused for the
expressed reason that the one who
did so would become a sacrifice as it
would have resulted in the Cleveland
delegates immediately uniting with
the friends of one of the others and
nominating him.
Among the curosities and wonders
that will be seen at the great World’s
Fair city is the Masonic Temple
which is now considered one of the
wonders of the worid. The building
is 21 stories high (higher than any
other building in the world); has an
electric light ami water works sys-
tem which would be sufficient to fur-
nish a city of GOOOO inhabitants.
Five thousand people are engaged in
life making under that one great
roof. The electric light wires in the
building if stretched out would reach
from Chicago to New York. Taken
all in all this remarkable structure is
indeed one of the World’s Wonders.
The Hot Springs Bulletin thus
compliments the President’s wife:
“Mrs. Cleveland's inaugural dress
was one of the handsomest at the ball
and yet it was made without crino-
line. Mrs. Cleveland has set her face
firmly against it. This alone should
install her queen of America and one
worthy emulating. We want true in-
dependent American women who
have womanhood enough to re Mat the
tide of foreign fashion that is sweep
iug from oui land the sweet simplici-
ty’ that marked the fashions of our
gentle grandames in ante helium
times. 0 for a thousand tongues to
sing Mrs. Cleveland’s praise and all
who follow her example.”
RAILROAD REGULATION.
Railroads and all other corporations
given charters by law should be
regulated by law. They have no more
right to rob the people than a
private citizen. But they should not
be oppressed by unjust law.
We are glad to see that the Ar-
kansas Legislature is now hard at
work trying to pass a just and fair
bill to regulate railroad and express
companies in this state. The House
committee on railroads have reported
a good measure which we trust will
speedly pass both houses and be-
come a law
The bill provides for regulation of
freight charges and express compa-
nies in this stale prevents unjust dis-
criminations and extortions in charges
tor transportation of freights and
punishes the same; prescribes a mode
of procedure and rules of evidence
and for the election by the people of
three commissioners prescribes their
powers and duties. The expenses of
the commission are to be borne in
part by the state and by the rail-
roads
The bill is the result of unanimous
agreement after examining and dis-
cussing the commission laws of other
stales and the several bills on this
subject presented al this session it
is deemed just and fair to the rail-
roads as well as the people and will
prevent much litigation and the con-
stant demand for legislation. It is
claimed that the measure will save an
immense amount to the people and
prevent constant vexation and iraj
petitions. Tiie bill will be pushed
forward to a final disposition during
the next ten days.

Grave Mistakes.
Physicians frequently make mis-
takes in treatment of heart disease.
The rate of sudden deaths is daily in-
creasing. Hundreds become victims
of the ignorance of physicians in treat-
ing heart disease. One in four per-
sons has a diseased heart. Shortness
of breath palpitation ami fluttering
irregular pulse choking sensation
asthmatic breathing pain or tender-
ness in side shoulder or arm weak or
hungry spells are synitoms of heart
disease. Dr. Miles’ New Heart Cure
is the only reliable remedy. Thou-
sands testify to its wonderful cures.

35 Years of Misery With
Chronic Diarrhoea.
A Perfect Cure by HOOD’S.
“About 38 years ago I got overheated
while at work in the harvest field and was
sick abed for throe months. When I got
on iny feet again I found that 1 had a bad
kidney trouble and chronic diarrhoea
which has drawn on me for over 35 years.
Just Think of My Misery.
I dared not eat anything more than would
barely keep mo alive. For years 1 felt that
my stay on earth would bo short. I have
times without number been in such distress-
ful painand aching that 1 could not turn my-
self in bed and 1 would have to ask my
Hood’s x Cures
wife to take hold of my hands and turn
me. In all these years 1 employed the best
physicians but nothing gave me permanent
relief. I had an iron constitution or I
could not have stood the drain upon me.
“In the fall of 1887 I was so weak 1 could
not work 1 concluded I would try Hood’s
Sarsaparilla. To my surprise and great
joy 1 soon found that It was doing me ”ood
and when I had used 7 bottles 1 was per-
fectly cured. It is now 4 years and the
Curo was Perfect and Permanent.
“For the past four years I have enjoyed
life and felt better and younger than in any
of thedl years pre • e ting. I endured every-
thing a human being could and live and
I will recommend Hood’s Sarsaparilla long
as Hive.” Wm. Osuonx Gibson City ill.
