Owing to the absence of many of

Jiat an absence of effort or exercise

I’his is the story of the orators own
ife which has been told nearly 2000
rime* throughout this country and
which has delighted the most cultur-
'd religious and patriotic people of
he land with its thought wit and
pathos.
Nothing mors has been heard of
the Malvern (Ark.) murderer who so
ruthlessly kilted the thlrteen-year-old
•on of Conductor Johnson of that
city since he was seen to leave a
louth-bound passenger train st Clear
ake station eight miles north from
'bis place. There seems to be little
room for doubt as to the direction
taken by the brute on leaving the
icene of hie devilish crime and it is
generally believed that he aud the
man who left the train at Clear lake
station on the day following tiia mur-
der are oue aud the same person. Tbs
murder was a cold blooded and dia-
bolical affair and we trust that its per-;
petrator may yet be caught aud pun-
ished as he deserves.

MILLER COUNTY S NEW COURT HOUSE
Aa It Will Appeur When Completed.
Wis

A W i i
K Irib iM B
The above cut represents a full view of the new court house to be erected
in this city for Miller county Arkansas and upon which the work of con-
struction will begin on Sept. Ist the building to be completed and ready for
occupancy on or before the Ist of June 1894. Building to cost complete
>36150.50.
The structure as shown by cut promises to be both handsome and com-
modious possessing every modern convenience and combining excellence
st ith attractiveness. The’dimensions < f the building are 106 feet length by
46 feet width. The main height from I asement to top of spire of the clock
tower will be 123 feet the building to consist of two stories and a basement
the latter to be constructed of Fouche/ -anite. The outer wall of the main
jiructnre will be of fine pressed brick handsomely ornamented with suitable
trimming material. The court house when complete will be an ornament to
the city and the pride of Miller county.
The negro wife murderer Henry
Arnold who so brutally slew his wife
and then attempted to destroy the ev-
idence of his crime by setting fire to
i the house in which the body lay is
! still at large. Any number of rumors
I have been circulated of his capture
; only to be exploded upon investiga-
-1 tioa. The latest report as to the fu-
gitive’s whereabouts comes from Sul-
phur bottoms where it is said the
murder was seen by a famer while
fishing in the river. It will be remem-
bered that Arnold at the time of hie
escape had on only a pair of pants
and one undershirt being without
hat or shoes. Hence it is only natural
to suppose that he is either being car-
ed for by friends or hiding out in the
woods as no account of any attempt
on his part to procure clothing has
been heard. This gives some color of
truth to the report from Sulphur bot-
tom.
Indian Lease Money.
Payment of the lease money to the
Chicasaw Indians is progressing
•moothly. The following incident
will illustrate the usual course which
is being pursued by the Indians upon
the receipt of their prorata share of
the lease money. A citizen from a
. neighboring town was in the Territo-
ry where the payment is being made
on Saturday of last week. An Indian
acquaintance had received a check foi
his prorata of the money which was
for SI4OO. The cheek was indorsed
t.nd handed to the Texan with the
request that on returning to the city
lie draw SSO and place the remainder
in bank to the Indian’s credit and on
the next trip to the territory to bring
the SSO. Thousands of dollars how-
ever are being paid out in gold.

Child Cremated.
News has just been received from
Paris Tex. of the occurrence in that
city of a tragedy peculiar to the ne-
gro race and which has been enacted
and re-enacted in the south since the
earliest of slavery days. A negro wo-
man Mandy White by name living
in a cabin in the suburbs of that city
went away from home and left her
two boys Jim and Eugene aged 6
and 4 years respectively at home. In
order to prevent their leaving during
her absence she locked them in the
house in which she left a lamp burn-
ing. About 10:30 the house was dis-
covered to be on fire by a negro nam-
ed Jim Ward who heard the screams
of the children lie gave the alarm
and broke in the door and managed
to get the oldest boy out but the oth-
er child perished and his body was
literally cremated. The boy who was
rescued died of his burns. He said on
being rescued that the fire was caused
by the lamp falling off a cupboard and
breaking.
A Sedentary Occupation

ercise ought to have Dr. Pierce’s
Pleasant Pellets to go with it. They
absolutely and permanently cure Con-
stipation. One tiny Sugar-coated Pel-
let is a corrective a regular a gentle
laxative. They’re the smallest the
easiest to take and most natural rem-
edy-no reaction afterward. Sick
Headache Bilious Headache Indiges-

ted relieved aud cured.

cured by Dr. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy
So is Catarrhal Headache and even
trouble caused by Catarrh. So is Ca-
tarrh itself. The proprietors offer

The Violent Commotion
a the stomach and bowels produced
' jy a violent purgative and its conse-
uent drenching action never are be-
itise it is impossible they should be
I allowed by permanent good effects.
No specific which weakens and con-
vulses the organs for whose relief it is
used can do good. Blue pills calomel
podyphyllin salts and senna vegeta-
le or mineral purgative pills are
drastic remedies generally void of
benefit. A reliable and effective sub-
titute for them is Hostetter’s Stom-
ch Bitters which effects a change
both natural and thorough in the
owels when they are constipated. A
ufficient and regular secretion of bile
by the liver and sound digestion are
Iso promoted by its use. Malaria in
.11 its forms rheumatism and kidney
trouble are obviated by this fine re-
former of disordered conditions of the
yetem. A wineglassful three times a
day is about the dose.
The Texarkana Seminary will re-
sume work the first Wednesday in
Sept. There will be everything in the
school and about the grounds to make
the institution beneficial and attract-
ive to students. Experienced earnest
teachers will be ever ready to give
good sympathetic encouragement and
aid to those in earnest about self-im-
provement. The business department
offers good terms and excellent ad-
vantages to those wishing such train-
ing. The Art Studio will be fitted up
well and be open to pupils at all
hours. 8-8-lwk
