A meeting of the conductors and

changes at Little Rock and Van
Buren which were announced some
days since.
Quite a ripple of excitement was
caused out on Olive street about mid-
night last night by several pistol
shots in rapid succession and the ert
of fire. Upon investigation it wa
found that a small out-honee in the
ear of Gus Henry’s residence was in
Hames. Water was procured and the
fire quickly extinguished with little
or no damage to the property except
perhaps to Mr. Henry’s poultry which
suffered somewhat in the loss of
feathers by coming iu too close con-
tact with the flames.

In view of the numerous train rob
beries which have taken place in var-
ious portions of the country recently
the subject of preservation of lite and
property from the continuous depre-
dations of the modern banditti has '
become a decided]) interesting and |
important one to railroad officials I
generally. In this connection Gen- ■
era! Manager Doddrige of the Mis-
souri Pacific system has given ex-1
pression to the following view’s:!
“Nothing appears to be so much
net ded now both east and west as
f hearty co-operation among the mana-
gers f railway and express compan-
ies to render .rain robbing a danger-
ous feature of crime in this country.
We traverte magnificent distances I
and cannot keep the tracks patrolled
throughout but speedy measures
must be adopted to ’protect life and
property and prompt punishment
should be dealt out to all sconudrels
who hold up a train.”
Richards & Pringle’s famous
Georgia Miqstrels will appear at
Ghio’s opera house on Monday Sept.
18th presenting an entirely new pro-
gramme They of course have Billy j
Kersands as it would not be proper .
without him aud his big mouth. The '
new people this season are Hillman &
Vernon Jas. White C. F. Alexander
and the Cresent City Quartette the
latter of last season’s “Alabama.” The
Great Gause W. O. Terry Tom
Brown aud others are still with the
organization. The following is from
the Helena Exchange: “Richards &
Pringle’s Georgia Minstrels gave the
best minstrel performance that has
been seen iu Helena for many a day
and nr naged to keep the audience in
i a roar from the rise of the curtain to
i its fall. The character of the jokes
and there were a great number of
them was very good. The absence of
f iiestuuts which is quite remarkable
1 ou occasions of this sort was very no-
ticeable. Billy Kersands is ininjitable
and James Crosby is not far behind
him. The show would be a good one
were these two the only members of
1 the company. The people anywhere
I may be assured of getting the full
value of their money when they pat-
ronize the Georgia Minstrels.”
