second-class mail matter.
The Federal election laws have
paeticaily bad no defense in the de-
bate in Congress on the bill to repeal
them. So it seems that there really
are some Dthings a republican Con-
gressman is ashamed to do.
Through the efforts of Commision-
er Vincenheller a car-load of apples
were shipped to the Worlds Fair
from Northwest Arkansas recently.
They have been entered for competi-
tion at the horticultural exhibit
The bankers of wall street would
do well to clear themselves of the
charge of having intentionally
brought on the recent money panic
before begming to prophecy ui«
coming of another and worse one.
An exchange says: Quite a num-
ber of papers 01-er the State are al-
ready talking about the next election.
We have not been solicited to run for
governor yet but we are scared to
death nearly all the time and fear
that .we will be. Don’t ask us. We
can’t stand the sacrifice.
Mcßae of the Arkansas delega-
tion has introduced a bill into
Congress to define and tax trusts.
The bill also provides that when any
article becomes unreasonably en-
hanced in price by reason of combi-
nations or trusts the duty upon such
article shall at the discretion of the
president be removed. A law based
on this principle would be a good
thing.—Clarksville Herald-Journal.
That we need more money will)
which to do the business of the coun-
try few will deny yet the gold bugs
want to shut off the only supply left
silver. When 1500000000 one third
of the money in circulation .in this
country is collected every year to de-
fray the expenses of an extravagant
government it of necessity impov-
erishes the people and we must have
hard times so long as it continues.
Mr. W. C. P. Brecklnnnridge maj
be a much injured and maligned man
but he lias no right under the impu
tation of shame which rests over him
to presume to represent the people
at the unveiling of the Confederate
monument in Chicago. If he lacks
the delicacy to withdraw. The South
has enough eminent men to send to
Chicago a repre.ienative without a
stain upon his name.—Memphis Com-
mercial.
The true principles of democracy
to day are: A tariff for revenue only
free coinage of silver pension reform
repeal of the odious federal election
law a tax on all incomes above SSOOO
and honesty and reform in all de-
partments of the government. Any-
thing less than tWVHs not democ-
racy.—Searcy Beacon.
Our doctrine exactly but Cleve
land and Eastern Democrats will do
all they can to prevent the. enacting
the same into law. The South and
West will be forced to stand together
against the plutocratic East.
The Memphis Commercial very
correctly says of the race question.in
the South: “It is very well to talk
about the nice problem in the South
being left to solve itself. That is but
another way of saying that the South-
ern whites must be left to solve it
their own way. That way will be the
Anglo Saxon way—the absolute do-
minion the undisputed mastery the
undivided sovereignty of the white
man. It is the white man's country
the white man’s civilization his gov-
ernment his law. The sooner this is
recognized the sooner shall we have
a salfactory adjustment of the rela-
tion* between the white man and
negro.
One reason sonic people and some
towns don't do more and belter busi-
ness than they are doing is because
they are farever waiting for some-
body to come along and offer them
the earth painted varnished and
fenced In and served i.i a silver spoon
willi tassels regardless of the fact
tha* with the exception of their
des he births marriages arrivals
und departures their names never
tou h printers twice a year— Mar

Wo have a number of this class
here in Texarkana merchants who
have thousands invested in goods
yet to our certain knowledge have
not spent a cent in advertising the
some in any home newspaper for a
year and over past; they are worth
very little to the city.
Deafness Cannot be Cured
by local applications as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear.
There is only one way to cure deaf-
ness and that is by constitunal reme-
dies. Deafness is caused by an in-
flamed condition of the mucons lin-
ing of the Eustachian tube. When
th s tube is inflamed you have a rum-
bling sound or imperfect hearing and
when it is entirely closed deafness Is
the result; and unless the inflamma-
tion can be taken out and this tube
re-tored to its normal condition hear-
ing will be destroyed forever. Nine
c i es out of ten are caused by catarrh
w’. ich is nothing but an inflamed
c) idition of the mucous surfaces.
Ve will give one hundred dollars
ft ■ any case of deafness (caused by
c i arrh) that cannot be cured by Hall’s
