All eowimanieatioas should be addressed
a the Democrat.
The Daily au.l Weekly Democrat are
altered at the postoffice a Texarkana as
second-class mail matter.
How can a Democratic administra
tion be expected to keep expenditures
or taxes on a peace basis with $160-
000000 in war pensions to pay? This
is a problem for you.—Hot Springs
News.
We can see no objection to settling
the Senatorial question by primary or
convention plan after which the state
convention can finally pass upon the
matter. The people can be trusted
to select their own servants and we
think they will make a good choice by-
returning Senator Berry.
The men who get mad because a
paper tells the trnth about them and
stop their subscriptions are not ui
ways the men who rule the communi-
ty. If all the newspapers were to ig-
nore them they would amount to just
about as much as a fly in a molasses
can.—Little Rock Press.
Among the many propositions for
buying bonds under the Carlisle offer
one is from an Ohio pensioner who
wants to invest $3000 in U. 8. bonds.
If that doesn’t show the absurdity of
the present pension system it is bard
to tell what would. When a pension
er can save up a small fortune to loan
at. 3 per cent it is high time the pen-
sion laws as well as the pension rolls
were thoroughly overhauled. —Ex.
That wide awake weekly the Arka-
delphia Herald wisely says: Prof.
Junius Jordan es Fine Bluff has an-
nounced himself as a candidate for
the office of state Superintendent of
Public Instruction. Prof. Jordan is
one of the foremost educators of the
state a brilliant scholar and a thor-
oughly progressive Democrat. The
man who secures the Democratic nom-
ination ever him will have something
worthy to be proud of.
Yell county will hold her primary
in March. Rather early but we sup
pose it is for the purpose of letting
the candidates kno t whether to make
a ‘crap" or not. We suppose it is al)
right and hope the Dispatch’s pre-
diction will come true. “Nine votes
for Berry”.—Perryville News.
Correct you are Bro. Gadd there
is no harm in an early primary and
those nine votes for Berry are strict-
ly o. k. Old Arkansas county is lor
Berry.—DeWitt New Era.
Good! We believe Miller county
will stand by Berry the statesman-
patriotwho has never betrayed a trust
or proved untrue to the people in any
way.
There are several parties mention-
tioned for U. 8. Senator. But the
race will be between Berry and Fish
back. If we are not mistaken in the
people of Arkansas there is enough
Southern chivalry in their blood to
cast their suffrage for the grand old
hero who in battling for the cause of
the Southern Cenfedracy lost his leg.
Senator Berry was a true and tried
soldier be is a statesman true and
tried and lias had only one term and
part of another. Gov. Fishback is a
brainy brilliant man and statesman
too and Arkansas has owed him a
debt of gratitude for bis fidelity to
the Democratic party for several
years but she has paid it. His con-
duct during and after the war dis-
qualifies him as B.erry's successor. In
fact after what Arkansas has done
for him it would be a lack of South-
ern pride to substitute him for such a
man as Berry. And we beg of the
people of Arkansas to give this mat-
ter a serious sober thought and then
cast your votes according to the die
tales of your conscience.—Des Arc
Guidon.
HOW TO GET AT IT.
The outstanding indebtedness of
the state should be properly listed
and all claims not included in this
list forever debarred. It is not at all
unlikely that many fraudulent claims
will be presented in the future and
unless the greatest caution is exer
cised the state may in this way be
robbed of thousands of dollars. Ev-
ery legitimate claim should be regie
tered and its amount ascertained.—
Arkansas Democrat
The proper thing would be to call
in all outstanding scrip and other
evidences of the state's indebtedness
for cancellation and re-issue. Give
three mouths notice through the news-
papers and after that time lot all
claims against the state that have not
been presented to the proper authori-
ties for examination cancellation and
re-issue be forever debarred. By this
means the actual idebtedness of the
state can lie accurately ascertained
and listed and fraudulent warrants
now afloat can be found and destroy-
ed. It occurs to us that this would
be the propel course to pursue—Hot
Springs News.
Il is customary for counties and
cities to occasionally call in all evi-
dence of indebtedness for inspection
and re issue and certainly the state
should do so. Let us have a reckon-
ing and see bow we stand.

The reader of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at last
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages aud
that is catarrh. Hall’s Catarrh Cure
is the only positive cure known to the
medical fraternity. Catarrh being a
constitutional disease requires a con-
stitutional treatment. Hall’s Catarrh
Cure is taken internally acting direct-
ly upon the blood and mucous surfaces
of the system thereby destroying the
foundation of the disease and giving
the patient strength by building up
the constitution and assisting nature
in doing its work. The proprietors
have so much faith in its curative
powers that they offer oue hundred
dollars for any case that it fails to
cure. Send for list of testimonials.

“ I Owe My Life to Hood's
Sarsaparilla ”
“Words aro powerless to express the grati-
tude I feel toward Hood's Sarsaparilla for
under God I feel and know that to Uils medi-
cine I owe my life. Twelve years ago I
began to bloat followed by nausea at the
stomach and later with .welling. of the
limbs accompanied by severe pain This
gradually grew worse until three years ago.
Physicians told me the trouble was
Caused by a Tumor
For several months I had been unable to retain
any food of a solid nature. I was greatly
emaciated had frequent hemorrhages and
was satisfied the doctors were right in saying I
my life was nearly over. One day a friend
suggested that 1 try Hood’s Sarsaparilla; I did
so and for 3 or 4 days I was sicker than ever
but I kept on and gradually began to feel better.
I Began to Feel Hungry
Could after a time retain solid food Increased
in weight the saffron hue left my skin the
bloating subsided and I felt better all over.
For the past two years my health has been
aulte good and I have been able all the time to
o the housework for my family. After what It
lias done for me I never hesitaie to recommend
