Mrs. Jessie Mayfield of Ruston, I
arrived in the city Sunday morning
to make an indefinite visit with her
mother, Mrs S. N. Weston of Hu-
manson Heights. Ulyseses Smith is
on the sick list. Mrs. Mabel Harris
spent the weekend in Shreveport,
with friends. The beautiful Trop-
hies have been sent to those winning
in Yard Contests, and also letters
of compliments, stating that 2,000
gallons of water will be given to
those winning first prizes. Master
Othella Washington is spending his
vacation in Houston, with his fath-
er. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Boatright o’
I'yler has returned home for a
short stay. Little Miss Virginia Ray
of Ruston, is visiting her grandmoth-
er, Mrs. S. N. Weston. Rev. T. M.
Chambers and the Good Will group
of Little Rock, Ark, arrived Satur-
day morning at four o’clock, due to
inclemency of weather the picnic
which would have been given from
five to seven o’clock, had to be post-
poned. Saturday night, a recital
was given by the Dunbar Choral
Club, after which a big banquet was
given in honor of the visiting group.
Miss Claudia Johnson, popular young
lady who attended Arkansas College,
taught Mrs. Minnie B. Johnson’s
summer school students, during her

Barbecue” was enjoyed Friday, July I
26 at the Y, P. Jones estate. The
menu consisted of barbecued veal,
barbecued chicken, pork, ribs, fried
spring turkey, Irish potato salad,
cake and cream.
Those enjoying this festivity were
Prof. and Mrs. Nat. Q. Henderson,
Mrs. Flay Ford and sons; Mrs. Lau-
ra Brown; Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Meeks'
and family; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Clay;
Mrs. Rupert O. Roett and the fam-
ily. The Roetts were the weekend
guests of the Jones family.

Miss Gladys Jackson, of Bellville,
is visiting relatives in Sealy. Luckie
B. Holliday, and Orie Blackman
were called to Bellville and recieved
their applications for the CCC. They
were sent to the U. S. Recruiting
station at Brenham. They were-not
stationary at this writing. We wish
these young men success. Many
members of Cole’s Chapel M. E.
Church motored to Bellville to at-
tend the district conference, last
week. A social party was given, Tues
day night at the residence of Mrs.
E. A. Anderson, in honor of Luckie
B. Holliday. All present had a nice
time. Mrs. Maria Scales departed
this life, last Tuesday afternoon. She
leaves a host of children, grand-
children, relatives and friend sto
mourn her loss. Harold Long and
Aaron Long were visitors in Sealy,
Tuesday. The Good Hope Four
quartet of Sealy sang at the M. E.
District Conference, Saturday night.
The fast Sealy Tigers player great
baseball in Eagle Lake; Sunday;
scores, 9 to 8 in favor of Eagle Lake.

The Prairie View Eetension School
of Crockett held at Mary Allen Jun-
ior College, finished the survey of
rural schools, July 26. The class
was divided into three groups, Group
one, surveyed North Houston Coun-
ty Group two took East Houston
County; Group three surveyed
Southern and Western parts of the
county. The class reports the con-
ditions are fairly adequate, but in
others it is surprisingly inadequate.
