The newspaper’s statewide fish-
ing contest — something new in
Texas sports competition—will be
held during National Fishermans
week. April 27 to May 5. ..
To the angler catching the big-
zest bass in Texas inland waters
during that period will go $50 in
cash. .
The runner-up will get $20. third
place $10 and the next four places
$5 each
Howard H. Dodgen, executive
secretary of the Texas Game, Fish
and Oyster commission will serve
as honoray Judge and his 97 game
wardens will check the weights of
fish caught in every section of Tex
as to be entered for the final tabu-
lation. -__.
Sports writers of newspapers in
Texas also may certify the weights.
Each warden or sports writer
will be asked to take the weight,
length, girth of each fish entered,
record the full name and address
of the angler making the catch
■ list the type of bait, if artificial the
type of lure and where the fish

Here are the contest rules: .
1 Any Texan may register with-
out fee by certifying the informa-
tion sought on the fish through a
game warden or newspaper sports
editor .
2. The fish must be caught dur-
ing contest week, April 27 to May
5 3 The fish may be Uken from
any inland water in Texas or from
lakes bordering on the state such
as Texoma.
4 All entries must be in the mail
to The Sports Editor, Abilene Re-
porter News. not later than mid-
night of the closing day, May5.
If at all possible, a picture of the
fisherman and the catch should be
mailed with the entry. ,

ton field with more than 1200 ath-
