The modern American drug

“ON THE JOB"—with insulation that provides economy and safety. Hooks Insulation Com- __________________

method of insulating, used by Hooks, insures a scientifically complete job of insulation.

“Johns-Manyille home insulation , economical heating and air con-

is a comfort that pays for itself
in not less than 7 years,” declares
Doyle Hooks, of Hooks Insulation
Co. This firm has the franchise
for Johns-Manville rock wool in-
filiation for Taylor and seven
neighboring counties. They have
done a tremendous amount of in-
sulation work during the past few
years—pot only on homes, but on
theatres and other commercial
buildings, cold storage vaults and
locker plants.
Hooks explained that the home
owner or owner of a business
building will save 3 ways by in-
sulation. First, in redecorating ex-
oense because the warmer walls
"and ceilings do not discolor so
readily. Fuel savings on insulated
buildings up to 30 per cent are not
uncommon. Equipment economy is
effected because insulation per-
mits the use of smaller size more
With the pneumatic method* of
insulating, existing homes and
buildings are now as easily insulat-
ed as are buildings under construc-
tion. Twenty years ago foresighted
builders and architects were be-
coming increasingly aware of the
value of insulating homes while
under construction But the scien-
tific insulation of existing homes
was practically unknown
Johns-Manville engineers and
scientists started work on the
problem. They perfected the scien-
tific method of installing Rock
Wool, by air pressure, into the
hollow spaces in the attic and
walls of homes already built. And,
the Hooks Insulation Co. workmen
are experts who know their job.
They work efficiently and without
mess or disturbance. They leave
the house looking exactly as it

thing—the skill and ability that
must attend the use or application
of some of these products.

was, but what a difference in com-
fort, economy and protection.
Johns-Manville not only pioneer-
ed in the pneumatic insulating
method, but also developed Rock
Wool to its present recognized
high standard. Natural Rock Wool
was found first in the Hawaiian
Islands—the product of volcano
eruptions. Rock Wool is now manu-
factured in “man-made volcanos”
which blast the melted rock with
steam, forming it into a fibre. A
refining process produces the com-
mercial product.
Rock Wool contains mothing that
will burn-—nor is any chemical
treatment required to make Johns-
Manville Rock Wool “flame proof”
or “fire resistant." The blowtorch
test proves the fireproof quality of
Rock Wool, which carries the ap-
proval of the Underwriters Labor-
atories. Rock Wool in the roof and
sidewalls of a building provides an
effective safeguard against the
ever present hazard of commu-
nicated fires. This insulation also
completely eliminated the flue-like
openings between the inner and
outer walls minimizing the danger
of wall fires.
Among the commercial building
insulation jobs of the Hooks In-
sulating Co are included the new

Emogene Knight, owner of Mary
Beauty Shop, emphasizes the fact
that, no matter how good the per-
1 manent wave product is, it is in-
| conceivable that an untrained in-
| dividual can successfully and with-
out possible danger give- another
person or herself a lovely perma-
nent wave.
Miss Knight gives the following
' simple” procedure of the proper
way to give a permanent wave:
The average head possesses ap-
proximately 100,000 single hairs.
The hair must be thoroughly
cleansed so that waving fluids can
penetrate the thousands of hair
shafts. It is very necessary to use
the correct type of detergent for
the individual.
It is necessary to divide the hair
into between 25 and 50 sections
that are alike in size and shape
for uniform results. Each section
must be wound on a rod of cor-
rect size in such a manner that
every hair is wound with equal
tension Rods must be the proper
size, correct strength of lotion
must be selected, proper timing
must be achieved, all according to
the individual.
The correct handling of newly
treated hair and the lovely fashion-
ing of a new permanent can be
achieved only by skilled and
trained beauty technicians. And, if
something goes wrong somewhere
during this “simple” procedure,
the trouble or cause must be in-
stantly recognized and repaired,
which only a trained individual
can do
The many new features in-
troduced in Dodge "Job-Rated”
trucks include the "pilot-house"
cab which provides more safety
because of all-around vision Vision
is increased because windshields
and windows are higher and wider
New; rear quarter windows are
available, adding still more to vi-
sion and safety.
More comfort is provided by the
new a dju s t a ble "Air-O-Ride"
seats. A lever at the bottom of the
front seat controls firmness or
softness of cushion. Seven full inch-
es of seat adjustment provide the
right legroom for every.driver
All-weather ventilation of truck
cabs gives more safety and more
comfort to drivers. No matter what
the temperature, the drive is com-
fortable because of the availability
of an ingenious combination of
fresh air intake, newly designed
hot water truck heater, vent win-
dows and cowl ventilator.
New chassis design makes for
easier handling, too. By moving
the front axle back under the
frame and moving the engine for-
ward, Dodge has greatly improved
maneuverability and weight dis-
tribution. Turning diameter has
been reduced by a wider front
axle tread plus a new type of cross
steering which permits a 37 de-
gree turning angle to left or right.
