THROCKMORTON, June 10-Fu-
neral for Mrs. Eliza Jane Cohran.
94. who died at Throckmorton
Thursday morning, was to be held
at 4 p. m. Friday at the First
Baptist Church.
The Rev. Norman Sanders, pas-
tor, was to officiate, assisted ty
the Rev. Jack Scott. Burial was
to he in Throckmorton Cemetery
under direction of Merriman Fu-
neral Home.
Mrs. Cohran’s death occurred at
the home of a daughter, Mrs. Dovie
Talley of Throckmorton. She was
born in Louisiana and was married
in Waston, Ark., in 1870 In that
year she moved to Texas with her
late husband. Mrs. Cohran has ap-
proximately 160 living descendants,
including a great - great - great-
grandchild.
Immediate survivors are three
sons. Felix and W. S. Cohran, both
of Throckmorton, and Abe Cohran
of Fort Worth, and five daughters.
Mrs John Terry and Mrs. Buck
Morton, both of Oklahoma. Mrs.
Will Reid of Clovis, N. M . and
Mrs John Tudor and Mrs. Talley,

SNYDER, June 10 (RNS)-
Body of 1st. Lt Gilbert M Winston
is being returned for reburial here.
He was killed in France August 7,
1944
Lieutenant Winston is survived by
his mother, Mrs. Tom L. Winston
of Fort Worth: a brother. Torn L.
Winston of Fort Worth, and a sis-
ter, Mrs, Frazier Waddill. Dallas.
Funeral services will be held in
the Odom Funeral Home Chapel
June 15 at 2 p.m., with the Rev.
E K Sheppard, minister of the
First Baptist Church of Snyder of-
ficiating, He was a member of the
Baptist Church. Interment will
be in the Snyder Cemetery.

ODESSA, June 10 — July 12 has
tentatively been set as the date
for elections for confirmation of
the Colorado River Municipal
Water District, it was decided
Thursday night at a meeting of rep-
resentatives from Big Spring and
Odessa.
Enabling legislation on the dis-
trict. which includes parts of How-
ard and Ector Counties, and a
companion measure which permits
cities to do business with the dis-

Return Home
Four-year-old Frances Mae Steel,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Steel of Anson, has fallen victim
to leukemia — that unconquered
mystery of medical science which
has preyed upon both children and
adults in recent years.
She was to undergo a transfu-
sion this morning in an effort to
replensih her blood supply.
Frances Mae’s parents said the
child was a bundle of energy until
a week ago. Since that time she
has become completely different,
not even smiling or noticing her
toys.
The child underwent a second
test this morning to make sure the
first diagnosis was correct. The
second verdict was acute leuke-
mia
After revealing his diagnosis, the
attending physician gave the par-
ents permission to take Frances
Mae home. “She will be happier
there,” he said They planned to
leave with her sometime this aft-
ernoon.
Anson Renames
Streets; C-C to
Purchase Signs
ANSON. June 10 (RNS)—Re-
naming of Anson’s streets has been
approved by the City Council.
Streets running north and south
are to be termed avenues, those
running east and west are to be
streets bearing numbers for names
Avenues will bear the names of
trict were signed by Governor
Beauford Jester this week.
The Thursday night meeting was
called to review a proposed water
project which has been under dis-
cussion for the past three years.
The proposal originally included
five West Texas cities, but has
dwindled to Big Spring and Odessa.
The proposed water project in-
cludes a dam on the Upper Colo-
rado River in southwest Scurry
County with a 30-inch pipeline to
Big Spring and a 24-inch line from
Big Spring to Odessa.
Engineers estimate the lake
would provide the cities with two
or three times their present com-
bined average consumption.
Marvin Ulmer of Midland, re-
signed as chairman of the associa-
tion. R. T. Piner of Big Spring
was named to succeed Ulmer, and
Charles Perry of Odessa was elect-
ed vice-chairman.

West Texas Utilities Company at-
torneys informed Mason officials
Wednesday that they will contest a
suit filed by Mason to remove the
company from that municipality.
WTUC built power lines into this
section of the country 20 years
ago, long before the City of Mason
was incorporated, and has served
this area since that time, company
attorneys said.
Mason recently filed a ault to en-
force provisions of a city ordinance
which would require West Texas
Utilities to move from the city by

Trent Woman’s
Burial at Waco
of
MERKEL. June 10. —Body
Mrs Martha Jane Crockett,
who died at Trent Thursday, has
87,
been sent from the Starbuck Fu-
neral Home In Merkel to Waco, her
former home, for burial.
Funeral was to be held in Waco
at 3 p m. Friday under direction
of Compton Funeral Home there.
Mrs. Crockett died at the home
of her daughter, Mrs O. L. Bishop
of Trent, st 4 30 p. m. Thursday.
She had been living in Trent six
months
Born in Tennesse. Aug. 29. 1861
she was married to Tommy Crock-
ett in Mississippi In 1883. They
moved to Texas soon afterwards.
She spent most of her married life
near Waco.
Mrs Crockett was the mother of
10 children, six of whom survive.
They are Eula Winkler of Cameron.
Mrs. S E Gilbert of Waco, Mrs.
Laura McKinney of Houston, Mrs.
O L. Bishop of Trent, and Mrs.
Russell West of Waco: and Dave
C. Crockett of Waco. Other surviv-
ors are 33 grandchildren, 45 great
grandchildren and three great-
great-grandchildren

3:30 o’clock this morning at Hen-
drick Memorial Hospital after a
three-week Illness,
Mrs. Loper underwent surgery
shortly after entering the hospital
three weeks ago and had been in a
critical condition since that time.
She was born’ in Birmingham.
Alabama, on July 28. 1876.
She is survived by two daugh-
ters. Mrs R. B Bethel of Abi-
lene. and Mrs. H. B. Jenkins of
Munday; one son, L F. Loper, La-
fayette. La one sister. Mrs. Zedic
Carlisle. Rena. Artz, 12 grandchil-
dren, and 11 great grandchil-
dren
Funeral services will be held in
the Elliott's funeral chapel Satur-
day morning at 10 o’clock with the I
I Rev George A. Ray, pastor of Im-
manuel Baptist Church, officiating.
The body will be taken to Elec-
tra following the service here.
Graveside rites will be held there
and burial will be by the side of
Mr. Loper, who died in 1930.
