Killer Deer Tops Weird Tales of
Hunting Season ‘65 Around Texas
AUSTIN—A deer that shot
and killed a hunter with his
own gun headlined bizarre out-
door recreational accidents as
reported to the Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department during the
last two weeks.
In other tragic incidents:
An 8-year-old Fort Worth boy
drowned when a boat contain-

the discovery of New Mex-
ico’s Carlsbad Caverns. In
1901 a local cowboy, Jim.
White, saw millions of bats
pouring from the cave’s
mouth at sundown to forage

hand and arm when a rifle he
was leaning on accidentally;

A Lufkin man told authorities
he killed his wife when his shot-
gun was discharged as he pre-
pared to go hunting.
The weird deer-triggered fat-
ality victim was Roy Edgar, 32,
of Albany. A ranch hand, he
shot a deer, reloaded his gun
and leaned it against a tree pre-
paratory to dressing out the
animal. The deer twitched and
a hoof struck the rifle causing
it to discharge.
Another self - inflicted gun
death involved a 16-year-old
Pearsall boy who was carrying a
pistol-grip .22 rifle while hunt-
ing rabbits.
In other hunt-related trage-
dies, a Round Rock man was
killed en route to his deer lease
when he fell asleep at the wheel
and a Brady man was killed In
a traffic crash while returning
from a deer hunt.
Apparent heart attacks killed
deer hunters from Abbott, Fort
Worth and Pearsall.
