TODAY'S EDITORIAL
Want to Help Keep America Strong?
Folks are inclined not to fully realize just
where good government starts.
Now we can tell you this, it starts with
such incidents as two tomorrow—precinct
convention and balloting. And we’re pleas-
ed today to have a statement from Rep.
Bill Satterwhite especially urging everyone' proud indeed.
But it’s a good idea to VOTE EARLY. All too
often, someone says: “I thought about vot-
ing this morning—then, as I didn't do it
at the time, got busy and forgot to.’’
Let’s have a volume of voting tomorrow
of which Ennis and area can rightly be
to attend the precinct convention (it appears VOTE tomorrow, SURE. And attend the
elsewhere in this issue.) party convention in your precinct. Help
The polls will open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. keep America strong. These are ways!

The Carpet Shop, 218 West
Ennis Avenue, has undertaken
the project of redecorating the
ticket office at Lions Stadium
with Decor-Cem exterior and in-
terior wall covering, as a means
of exhibiting this fireproof, wa-
terproof product. Decor-Cem is
the “product of tomorrow here
today,” available in any color
or texture, for both interior and
exterior walls, adding new beau-
ty and longer life to wall sur-
faces, it was stated.
Decor-Cem, new in Texas, is
a cement liquid tile which is
sprayed under pressure on inter-
iors and exteriors of masonary
structures in a wide range of
colors to form a pernament sur-
face. The material forms a water
proof bond that is everlasting
except for structural cracks
which are easily repaired, ac-
cording to the distributor.
The home office of the South-
western distributors of Decor-
Cem is located at 500 S. Ervay
Street, Dallas.
The product is being used
widely to renovate old buildings
and to finish areas of new ones,
such as bathrooms.
“Come by and see this new
wall covering product at any
time at the Ticket Office of
Lions Stadium, all work and ma-
terials compliments of The Car-
pet Shop,” it was suggested.”
The Ennis Independent School
District wishes to express its ap-
preciation to The Carpet Shop
for selecting the schools for this
demonstration.

Paul Grafton
Summarizes
Platform
Paul Grafton, in his formal an-
nouncement for County Commis-
sioner, Pct. 2 says:
“Since February 10 I have
been writing a weekly series of
articles in the Ennis Daily News
and the Ennis Weekly Local,
about the County Commissioners
Court, its history and the powers
and duties of that Court. Twelve
such articles have been written,
the last of which was in last
week’s issues of the papers. Lack
of time prevents another. In
writing these articles, I have
tried to explain the many laws
concerning the County Commis-
sioners Court, and to show that
a County Commissioner’s duties
and responsibilities go far bey-
ond the mere maintenance of
your county road system. Neith-
er do I minimize the importance
of county roads. I should like
to summarize my platform—the
things I should strive for should
you choose me as your next
Commissioner in Saturday’s
election:
1. Reducing the number of
Justice Courts to the Constitu-
tional minimum of four, and pay-
ing the justices an adequate
salary.
2. Reducing the number of
Constables accordingly, and pay-
ing the Constables a decent sal-
ary—or leaving the jobs vacant.
3. The use of more perma-
nent materials in maintaining
and repairing all county roads.
Redesignate certain roads to
Farm-To-Market status. Aban-
don all roads not in general pub-
lic use.
4. Responsibility as provided
in the Statutes concerning the
care of paupers, with emphasis
upon care of the indigent aged.
5. Responsibility also with re- T
gard to indigent out-of-city pa- ■
tients in Ennis Municipal Hospi- 0
tal. Ours is the only public hos- a
pital in the County, and much of H
this responsibility placed on city 5
taxpayers.
6. Adequate reimbursement to H
the City of Ennis by the coun- a
ty in rural fire protection ser- B
vices. Again, the city taxpayer B
pays county bills.
7. Better care of public ceme- B
teries. Also imposed by the 3
Statutes.
8. A complete study of the
many tax inequities that exist in
county assessments. This will
cover quite an area of study.
9. Doing something construc-
tive about the surplus held by
the county of nearly two million
dollars, and at the same time,
maintaining fiscal responsibility
at all times.
"If you think I have the qua-
lifications to represent you in
Waxahachie as your next County
Commissioner, I should appre-
ciate your vote when you go to
the polls Saturday. If I am chos-
en as your Commissioner, I shall
strive for these goals, and I
promise I shall devote my entire
time and energy to the office,
as I do not own either a farm or
a business in this County. In
closing, I want to again thank
the more than five hundred
friends and supporters who have
seen fit to endorse my candidacy
for the office I seek, and to my
many friends who have pledged
their support, I am most grate-
ful.
