MAKING IT TOUGHER for disenchanted citizens to reach
the West and freedom, East Germany is adding some new
touches to the Berlin Wall. Guards place sections of
smooth, round piping along the top of the concrete block
barrier, making it more difficult to get a handhold or
hook a rope over the top.
ON THE
AVENUE
BY FAY CASEBOLT
Flying the colors here is a
young citizen—LISA LISMAN—
who has a United States Flag on
her playhouse in the Lisman
yard on North Preston. Another
patriotic Ennis, .youngster is
SCOTT RIDER who responds
with “I like the Flag” every Sun-
day morning at Sunday School
when MRS. HARLAN NOEL
asks if anyone has any comment
to make, . at the close of the
morning exercises she conducts
in Sunday School at the First
Christian Church. They use a
U. S. Flag in the opening and
Scott very firmly makes that
comment when she asks for com-
ments. MRS. C. EDWARD
Paris her mother accompanied
her. After Mrs. Todd left Paris
to fly home her mother went
with the Alexandre family on
their vacation to the Italian Riv-
iera.
MISS BESS DILLARD is also
back home from her fabulous
TSTA District 5 European Tour,
which began with four days in
and around London, progressing
from there to the Continent. Miss
Dillard said she and the other
teachers on her tour traveled
4,000 miles by motorcoach over
the Continent, besides a boat
trip up the Rhine and a few
other modes of travel. She will
tell me more about her six weeks
trip next week.
We will try to summarize
some more of the European tour
made by BETTY RIDER and
JUDY SCHOEPS today, al-
though it is ALL too interesting
to omit. Yesterday we followed
the tour from Paris, to Nice, to
Rappalo, Siena, Rome, and the
numerous interesting places they
visited en route to these towns.
After three days of sightsee-
ing in Rome they drove to Flor-
ence, following the valleys of the
ing the double ring ceremony.
he bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Boyd F. Rodgers,
and the bridegroom’s parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cotton-
game, all of Ferris.
Wedding music was presented
by Mrs. James Marriott, cousin
of the bride, organist, and Mrs.
Kenneth Brooks, soloist, who
sang “Because.” The couple re-
peated vows before a setting of
greenery, white gladioli and can-
ledabra. An archway topped with
a dove carrying wedding bells
completed the scene.
Bride’s Gown
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a formal
length gown or white satin and
re-embroidered lace, fashioned
with a sweetheart neckline. The
skirt extended to a chapel length
train. Her veil of imported il-
lusion was held by a tiara of
seed pearls and crystals. She
carried a bouquet of three white
phalaenopses orchids and steph-
anotis with satin streamers atop
ship Hall of the church. Mem-
FRAIM told us about Scott and
also about the U. S. Flag on
Lisa’s playhouse.
Talked with MRS. SAM TODD
and she said she thoroughly en-
joyed her 40 days visit with her
relatives abroad, a trip she mak-
es every other, year. She flew to
France where she visited her
brother-in-law and sister, MR Tiber and Nera rivers, through
and MRS. JACK. ALEXANDRE--country heavily planted with Vin-
AS and olives, to Narni, a hill
brother-in-law and
sister, MR
and children JOELLE
and
NOEL, the family who hosted
BETTY RIDER and JUDY
SCHOEPS the first night they
were in Paris, arrangements hav-
ing been made for their visit
with the. Alexandres before the
girls left home., Mrs. Todd went
from Paris to Beruit to visit her
mother and other relatives there
and then when she returned to

of Spoleto, another hill town,
and Foligno to Assisi where they
lunched at the Hotel Windsor-
Savoia, after which they visited
the Abbey of St: Francis of As-

they drove to Perugia, a lovely
