tor and semi-trailer driven by Jerry Lee Logan, employed
by John Williams Company of Iowa Park, got lost with his
big rig and in making a right turn from N. Market Street,
onto Main Street at the 4-way stop clobbered the 1961 sedan
parked in the Banner-Press' reserved parking space. The
car belongs to the Gilmore's daughter, Carole, who until
hearing of the mishap was happily celebrating her 20th bir-
thday today. She is a junior at Sam Houston in Huntsville.
Logan was ticketed for falling to comply with requirements
concerning striking an unattended vehicle and failing to have
Texas Commercial operator's license in his possession. He
was carrying a load of milo from North Texas to Houston and
missed his by-pass route to Houston; then misread another
"to Houston" marker and turned off Highway 36at City Hall
to get into the place where the mishap occurred. The Gil-
more car was heavily damaged, while the semi-trailer had
no damage. The driver said he did not know he had hit the
car and had to be followed and caught by Gilmore, who caught
a ride with "Killer'* Beaumier, after Reeves Ham came in •
the Banner-Press and reported the mishap.

people of Brenham, in order
to do away with the massive

It is somewhat like an unwr-

the pattern actually violates

WHO HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY?-The truck at left wisely stopped and gave the right
of way to these cars on Baylor Street at the streets rather busy intersection with Vulcan
Street, just 100 feet from Brenham's city hall. This intersection is one example of where
"Brenham’s driving pattern" at uncontrolled intersections has not fully taken shape.
Sometimes the cars from one direction seem more prone to take the right-of-way and '
some times it goes the other way. This could be an even more dangerous situation
than on.Main, Alamo and Commerce where the east-west traffic takes the right-of-way
at uncontrolled intersections consistently. The north-south driving view is so open
that a stranger could easily take the right-of-way there before realising it is uncon-
trolled.
