ock market climbed in very
active trading on the New York
Stock Exchange today.
Some of the uplight was cr-
edited to President Johnson’s
Wednesday night speech in
which some traders profes-
sed to see bullish implica-
tions. Steels and rails moved
upward. Airlines were strong.
Aircrafts tended slightly to the
upside. Electronics and spe-
cialties also were moving up. -
Analysts said traders ap-
parently were relieved that
President Johnson offered no
proposals that had not already
been discounted on Wall St-
reet The President reiterated
his proposal for an income
tax surcharge-the stock mar- •
ket presumably has tons, the

be imposed. Encouraging news
items included a boost in Dec-
