Drilling Rules
For Oil Wells
ANSON, Jan 11.—Regulations on
oil drilling within the townsite
were enacted Tuesday night by the
Ansons City Council.
Filing fee of $200 per well was
set.
Mayor Earl McCaleb said that
, only one well per city block will
be allowed and that the permit fee
must accompany each application
to drill which is filed with the city
secretary.
Every application must also be
accompanied by a certificate of
adequate insurance coverage and
a $10,000 bond insuring that the op-
erator will abide by terms of the
ordinance
A tax of 2 cents per barrel was
levied on all oil produced inside
the city. The ordinance provides
that if the price of crude should
fall below $1 a barrel, the tax
shall be 2 per cent of the price.
All pipelines within the city
must be buried to a reasonable
depth under the terms of the ordi-
nance.
Whenever available, pumping
shall be done with electric power
in order to cut down noise.
There will be no smoking within
so feet of a drilling rig, and six
signa to that effect must be posted
at each location.
No burning of waste oil or refuse
within the city limits will be per-
mitted.
A woven wire fence six feet
high or higher with all gates
locked shall protect each well
Flares, if required, will have to
be at least 40 feet from the sur-
face of the ground.

Marines to Set Up
College Recruiting
DALLAS. Jan 11. Un—Ir it’s okay
with school officials. Marine Corps
recruiting and information booths
will be set up in every college
campus in North Texas.
Maj. E. L. Bale, Jr., head of the
Dallas Marine recruiting district,
said five colleges had already ap-
proved the idea.
Bale said the Marines do not en-
courage any student to leave his
studies, and that “the only men on
the campuses that we want to talk
to are those who have already
made up their mind to volunteer
for some branch of service. And
those who are in the bottom half of
their classes and face the draft.”
Bale said recruiters have been
given permission to set up booths
at North Texas State at Denton; Ar-
lington State at Arlington: Austin
College at Sherman, Midwestern
University at Wichita Falls, and
Paris Junior College at Paris.
