Engagement of Nina June Sweet
To Wilson Johnston Is Revealed
The engagement and approach-
ing marriage of Nina June Sweet
of Abilene to Wilson Johnston of
Abilene, son of the Rev. and Mrs
T. M Johnston of Vernon, to being
announced by the bride-elect’s
mother, Mrs. Forest Sweet of Ok-
lahoma City, Okla.
The wedding will take place at
10 o’clock on the morning of April
T, in the First Methodist Church
of Vernon. The bridegrcom-eleet’s
father will read the ceremony.
Miss Sweet is employed in the
office of the city manager, Mr.
Johnston is city attorney.

HEALTH UNIT 'NOT SOCIALIZED,
DIRECTOR TELLS CITY FEDERATION
Stressing the fact that the local
health unit is not socialized med-

director of the Abilene-Taylor
County Health Unit, told the
March meeting of the City Fed-
eration of Woman’s Clubs Monday
afternoon He was introduced by
Mrs. L. W. Hollis, Jr., health
chairman.
Work of the unit is educational
and directed toward making the
community a more healthful
place to live, he said.
More than 200 reactors were dis-
covered during the mobile tuber-
culosis unit drive and these cases
are being followed by local physi-
cians, be reported. The unit spon-
sors weekly innumization clinics,
educational nursing visits, weekly
water and milk testing and inspec-
tion of eating establishments
among other activities. Dr. Krei-
meyer said.

The bride chose a navy nylon
faille dress with matching navy
and pink accessories. She had a
corsage of pink carnations and
carried a white prayer book.
Mrs. Loyd Walker, the bride’s
only attendant, wore an eggshell
dress with navy accessories. Her
corsage wes of red carnations.
Best man was Loyd Walker.
The bride is a graduate of Noo-
dle High School and attended Mo-
Murry College for two years. He
is a graduate of Anson High School
and served with the nevy for two
years, during World War II.

John Stevens, dean and teacher
at Abilene Christian College, spoke
on "National Defense" at the
meeting at the Woman’s Club Fri-
day afternoon of the John Davis
chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution.
A book plate designed hv Mrs.
A. H. Rowe which includes the
D. A. R. emblem* and the blue-
bonnet. Texas state flower, was
presented for the approval of the
chapter.

Mrr. V. E. Hodges, long-time
resident of Abilene, celebrated her
10th birthday anniversary at a din-
ner given by her daughter, Mrs.
Marvin A. Miller, at the Miller
home, 1525 North 18th St.
Mrs. Hodges, whose home is on
the Buffalo Gap Road, came to
Abilene from Tennessee in 1901.
Her husband, who was a contrac-
tor and builder here, died in 1945.
Her daughter, Mrs. T. C. Beaty
of Palo Pinto, gave the invocation
and the devotional. She based the
devotional on the text from Pro-
verba. Chapter 31, on mother*. Aft-
er the "birthday song" was sung,
gifts were presented to Mrs. Hod-
ges. Pictures were taken of the
honoree and guests.__
Her children present included EL
don V. Hodges, and Mrs. Hodges,
of Abilene, Mrs. Beaty and Mrs.
Miller and her husband.
Grandchildren attending were
Kay Miller of Abilene, Billy Vic-
tor Beaty of Palo Pinto. Masuda
Hodges and Bob Miller of Abilene.
The latter was accompanied by
his wife, and his two young sons,
Bobby and Phillip Wayne.
Other guests included Mrs. Clay
Davis and her daughter, Patty Da-
vis, of Allene.

Champions Named
At Country Club
A champion team was selected
among five groups at a square
dance contest held Saturday night
at the Abilene Country Club. About
100 attended the dance.
Winners were Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Galbraith, Mr and Mrs. Earl Lee-
aon, Mr. and Mra Davia Scar-
brough, and Mr and Mra. Roscoe
Blankenship, Mrs. Leeson was
dance chairman.
