many were waiting outside stores
before the 9 o’lock opening.
At a notions counter, a bewilder,

SAIGON, Indochina, Dec. 34. las-
Communist-led Vietminh forces am-
bushed a motor convoy 40 miles
north of Saigon four days ago and
wounded Mrs. Franklin Irwin of
Toronto, Canada, it was learned
today. She is the wife of a Cana-
dian missionary attached to the
Mission Evangelique in Saigon.

shopping lists.
Gift counters in stores were cen-
ters of activity as customers clust
ered round, backing and fitting, es- ■
timating how a certain knick-
knack would look on a desk, on a
shelf, or in a window.
A busy day was anticipated at
all stores.
Church Schedules
Youth Revival
A youth revival will open Wed-
nesday evening at the Bible
Baptist Church. South 14th and
Ross Sts., the pastor, the Rev. L.
T. Grantham, announced Monday.
The Rev Bernie Rodgers of
San Antonio, now attending Bible
Baptist. College, Springfield, Mo.,
will preach.
The revival will last through
Sunday with services at 10 a. m.
and 7:30 p. m. daily.

—Dr. Sam A. Loeb, ’who has
practiced medicine and surgery in
Sweetwater since 1938. received
notification from the United States
Chapter of the International Col-
lege of Surgeons of his appoint-
ment as associate member by lie
executive council at Chicago, III.
The college was organised in
Geneva, Switzerland, by Dr. Max
Thorek, for the purpose of increas-
ing surgical knowledge throughout
the world. Its membership la
world-wide. The requirements are
most rigid. Members must have
formal surgical training in ad-
dition to sufficient years of prac-
tice before being eligible for mem-
bership. The degree will be con-
ferred on Dr. Loeb at the next
meeting in Chicago. -
Dr. Loeb served in the armed
forces from 1942 to 1945, during
which time he was flight surgeon
and served as surgical team chief
in the 130th Evacuation Hospital
in the European theater. Since his
discharge in 1945, he has been as-
sociated with Dr. C. A. Rosebrough
and Dr. J. K Richardson in the
Sweetwater Clinic.
Resident of Abilene
Since 1943 Succumbs
Mrs. Ibia D. Brown, 74, a resi-
dent of Abilene since 1943, died
suddenly at her home, 1501% Sayles
Blvd. about 10 p.m. Sunday night,
apparently of a heart attack.
Mrs. Brown moved to Abilene
from Mineral Wella, but from 1928
to 1940, the family lived at Moran.
Her husband died in 1928.
She was born July 1, 1877, in
Louisville, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at
4 p.m. this afternoon at Elliott’s
Chapel. Odell Brown, pastor of
Nazarene - Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Memor-
ial Park.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. L. O. Akins, Grayford, Tex.;
two sons Albert J. (Al) Brown
of Abilene and Ray Brown address
unknown; three grandsons; a
brother, John Dye. Houston.
