Stamford Rites Set Saturday
For JP, Retired Preacher
STAMFORD, Dec. IS - Kuner-
al for the Rev. Samuel Harvey
Young, SS, Stamford justice of the
peace, will be held at 1# a.m.
Saturday at St. John's Methodist
Church here.
Officiating will be the Rev. Her-
schel Thurston, pastor. Assisting
will be the Rev. Marshall Rhew.
Methodist district superintendent:
Dr. Howard Crawford, pastor of
the First Methodist Church in La-
mesa; and Dr. 0. P. Clark of
Abilene.
Burial will be in Highland Ceme-
tery under the direction of Kinney
Funeral Home of Stamford.
The Rev. Young, retired Meth-
odist minister, died at 12:50 p.m.
Thursday at his home following a
heart attack. Before retiring five
years ago, the Rev. Young had
served as pastor and presiding el-
der for as years in the Northwest
Texas Methodist District confer-

sons, Horace Young of Bishop,
Clyde of Eastland, Emmitt and
Carl of Dallas, and Eldon Shipp
of Staten Island, N. Y.; three

Lawton, Okla., Mrs. Jack Crock-
ett of Stamford, and Mrs. Roscoe
Hughes of Fort Worth: 13 grand-
children; three great-grandchild-
ren: a brother. Marvin A. Young of
Norman, and two sisters, Mrs. A.
E. Shear of Maple Plain, Minn.,
and Mrs. Ruby Boxer of Mexico.

On Drought Relief
COLLEGE STATION un—The
state Production and Marketing
Administrative committee has an-
nounced there will be no more
cottonseed far Texas counties still
getting drought relief.
State PMA chairman R. T. Price
said yesterday the reason for the
cutoff order would have to come
from Washington.
However, PMA officials in other
states said there waa ne more cot-
ton seed available.

peace in Stamford In September,
1952, and was still serving his term
at the time of his death. He was
a candidate for mayor in March,
1951.
He had been III several times
during recent years and suffered
a heart attack at Thanksgiving
and was in the hospital for more
than a week. The Rev. Young had
been downtown here Thursday, ad-
dreasing Christmas cards.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1887, in
Williamson County end entered
the ministry at the age of 26. His
first church was at Andrews. Fol-
lowing this he served at Fluvanna, |
Moby, Loraine, Hedley, Stanton,
Roscoe, Chillicothe, Floydada and
Snyder.
The Rev. Young was presiding
elder of the Stamford district for
a year and then of the Sweetwater
district. He was pastor of the First |
Methodist Church in Sweetwater
before he returned to Stamford to
serve as presiding elder of the
Stamford District for six years.
When be retired, the Rev. Young
was pastor of the Highland Heights
Methodist Church in Sweetwater.

DALLAS un— Funeral services
are scheduled here tomorrow for
Mrs. C. L. Hobdy, a secretary in
the Dallas bureau of the Associated
Press, who died at her home here
yesterday.
Mrs. Hobdy joined the AP staff
here in 1941s She was a native of
and a student of the Old South,
having been born in Boone County,
Miss.
She also kept an intense Interest
in local and national politics and
played an active part in Democrat-
ic precinct work in her neighbor-
hood.
She died suddenly after sufer-
ing what apparently was a heart
attack early yesterday. A son,
Charles H. Hobdy, Los Angeles,
and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Funk,
Lebanon, Mo., survive.
