Stamford Rites Set Saturday
For JP, Retired Preacher
STAMFORD, Dec. IS - Euner-
al for the Rev. Samuel Harvey
Young, 66, Stamford justice of the
peace, will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday at St. John’s Methodist
Church here.
Officiating will be the Rev. Her-
schel Thurston, pastor. Assisting
will be the Rev. Marshall Rhew,
Methodist district superintendent
Dr. Howard Crawford, pastor of
the First Methodist Church In La-
mess: and Dr. O. P. Clark of
Abilene.
Burial will be in Highland Ceme-
tery under the direction of Kinney
Funeral Home of Stamford.
The Rev. Young, retired Meth-
odist minister, died at 12:50 p.m.
Thursday at his home following a
heart attack. Before retiring five
years ago, the Rev. Young had
served as pastor sod presiding el-
der for 35 years in the Northwest
Texas Methodist District confer-
ence.
He was appointed Justice of the
peace in Sumford in September. |
1952, and was still serving his term
at the time of his death. He was
a candidate for mayor in March,
1951.
He had been ill several times
during recent years and suffered
a heart attack at Thanksgiving
and was in the hospital for more
than a week. The Rev. Young had
been downtown here Thursday, ad-
dressing Christmas earda.
Hurst, died in 1920. In 1322 he
married Mrs. Clyde Shipp
Survivors include Ma wife: five
sons, Horace Young of Bishop,
Clyde of Eastland, Emmitt and
Carl at Dallas, and Eldon Shipp
of Staten Island, N. Y.; three
daughters, Mrs. John Gerrety of
Lawton, Okla.. Mrs Jack Crock-
ett of Stamford, and Mrs. Roscoe
Hughes of Fort Worth; 13 grand-
children; three great-grandchild-
ren; a brother, Marvin A. Young of
Norman, and two sisters, Mrs. A.
E. Shear of Maple Plain, Minn.,
and Mrs. Ruby Bozer of Mexico.

State PMA chairman R. T. Price
said yesterday the reason for the
cutoff order would have to come
from Washington.
However, PMA officials in other
states said there was no more cot-
ton seed available.

He was born on Feb. 5. 1887, in
Williamson County and entered
the ministry at the age of 26. His
first church was at Andrews. Fol-
lowing this he served at Fluvanna,
Roby, Loraine, Hedley, Stanton.
Roscoe, Chillicothe, Floydada and
Snyder.
The Rev. Young waa presiding
elder of the Stamford district for
a year and then of the Sweetwater
district He was pastor of the First
Methodist Church in Sweetwater
before he returned to Stemford to
aerve as presiding elder of the
Stamford District for six years.
When he retired, the Rev. Young
was pastor of the Highland Heights
Methodist Church in Sweetwater.

are scheduled here tomorrow for
Mrs. C. L. Hobdy, a secretary in
the Dallas bureau of the Associated
I Press, who died at her home here
yesterday.
Mrs. Hobdy joined the AP staff
here in 1941. She was a native of
and a student of the Old South,
having been born in Boone County,
Miss.
She also kept an intense interest
in local and national politics and
played an active part in Democrat-
ic precinct work in her neighbor-
hood.
She died suddenly after sufer-
Ing what apparently waa a heart
attack early yesterday. A son,
Charles H. Hobdy, Los Angeles,
and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Funk,
Lebanon, Mo., survive.
