fighting is reported in the Mid-
dle East.
Israeli forces drove deep into
Jordan to avenge a series of
guerrilla sabotage raids.
It was the first Israeli move
into Arab territory since the
end of the Middle East war in
June.
The Israeli Army commanded
reported artillery duels across
the Suez Canal.
A Tel Aviv spokesman said
Egyptian big guns opened up on
an Israeli patrol at the northern
tip of the Great Eitter Like and
that Israel fired back.
Jordan's chief of military in-
teligence estimates up to 15,000
% Israeli troops crossed the Jor-
dan River cease-fire line—in

paratroopers behind the Jiordan-
fan lines to strike at bases from
which guirrillas 'have been mak-
ing sabotage raids.
An Israeli spokesman said the
forces would be pulled back
when they neutralize the bases.

outposts had been captured and

Pensacola Meet
PENSACOLA, Florida —Un-
heralded Ray Boots and En-
gland’s Tony Jacklin have fired
six-under-par 66‘s and tied for
the early first-round lead in the
$80,000 Pensacola Open Golf
Tournament.
Boots, a negro seeking his first
victory after four years on the
pro tour, had two eagles on his
sizzling first round. He sank a
10-foot putt for an eagle three
on the eighth hole. Boots’ sec-
nd eagle came on the 14th hole
when he rolled in a 12-inch putt
for another three.
Jacklin had a flawless round,
with six birdies and no bogeys.
Grouped one stroke behind
he leaders with 67‘s were Jay
Hebert, Dan Sikes and Mya Aye
of Hawaii.
Veteran Billy Maxwell sank

Pesident Johnson Says Peace
With Honor to Come to Viet
WASHINGTON — President
Johnson declared today peace
with honor will come to South
Vietnam.
That was the message he had
for 17 young men on their way to
Vietnam to help in the pacifica-
tion program under way in the
war-torn nation.

the peace he envisioned would
be built on the victories they
win.
Said Johnson: "let no one mis-
read our purpose: peace is our
goal. Let no one mistake our

the young men as setting out as
warriors for peace, but, he said:
“You should expect your efforts
resolve: peace will be won. It government on various levels.
