The 60s are Back in Boerne
this weekend
The Beatles owned them. So
did Elton John, Steve Mc-
Queen, Rod Stewart, Princess
Di and many other famous
people who could afford more
expensive and bigger cars.
* The mini skirt was named
after it — A tiny British car of
the 60s. A cult car. The Austin
Mini.
Two dozen of the icon cars
will be in the Boerne and
Comfort area this weekend
for a meeting of the Mini
Owners of Texas, a loose-knit
club that has been more of an
Internet thing prior to this
event.
The weekend starts with a
mixer at Catfish Cove tonight
after members settle into the
co-host headquarters of Holi-
, day Inn Express and Best
Western.
Then the club will have a
car show in downtown Com-
fort from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat-
urday.
A sports car rally will be
held at 2:30 p.m., followed by
a dinner and another rally to
Luckenbach in the evening.
The cars will get together in
Boerne on Sunday at the
Main Plaza before members
head home to as far away as
Mexico City.
Like the Beatles and other
United Kingdom rock groups
of the British Invasion, the
Austin Mini came to America
in the 60s and captured the
hearts of many young people.
About 10,000 of the tiny
cars were imported into the
country. Estimates run, as
high as 6,000 for the number
of Minis still on the road
today.
Approximately 200 are
being raced in vintage sports
car races across the country.
However, don’t think that the
Mini is a thing of the past.
Several hundred used Minis
are imported into the U. S.
each year from England, New
Zealand and Australia be-
cause the demand for the car
is more than the remaining
supply of cars imported 35
years ago can handle.

The classic Austin Mini Cooper of the 1960s has become a huge cult
car despite the fact that only about 10,000 cars were imported into
the U.S. About 6,000 are still on the road and several hundred are
imported each year from England, Australia, and New Zealand.

I am committed to providing a prescription drug
benefit that is affordable, dependable for all
beneficiaries with no gaps or gimmicks in
coverage. I will ensure seniors will always be able
to obtain the drugs they need and to fill their prescription wherever
they choose.
I oppose privatizing Social Security which will deplete the Trust Fund
reserves and cut benefits now. For those who prefer to manage their
retirement planning, I favor further increases in the caps on IRA and
401K plans etc. instead of killing Social Security. My opponent
repeatedly voted to raid the trust funds and cut benefits and privatize
Social Security.
I am not tied to corporate business interests in San Antonio, Dallas,
Houston and Washington.
As teacher, veteran and family man, I will provide responsive, true
representation for you and be readily available to you.
I will fight for working families, improve public education, and keep our
commitments to our veterans and Military Retirees.
