The very handsome chapel erected
on the Caruth place, a few miles east
of this city, and which was constructed
under the kindly and generous aus-
pices of Captain Caruth and his wife,
was razed to the ground, on the after-
ueon of the 28th instant, by a violent
wind storm. There were several work-
men on the inside at the moment the
wind struck the building, all of whom
made their escape, excepting a Mr.
Williams and a Mr. Baker, who re-
reived some severe bruises from the
falling timbers. We understand that
it is thie purpose of its projectors to re-
build it at once.

One of the Grandest Processions
that gentlemen having received the
largest number of votes fee the same;
and a lovely wreath was presented to
Capt. N. C. Connor, foreman of the
Dallas Hook and Ladder Company, by
the Waco delegation. By six o’clock
the last train, carriage, buggy, or what-
ever may have been the conveyance
adopted, returned to the city with its
festal occupants, every heart chiming
in praiseof the princely generosity with
which they had been treated by the
firemen and people of our city. At
night the grand ball was given at the
court house, and Field’s opera house,
and a splendid supper at the Odd Fel-
low’s hall, reports of which are acene

was formed to a few minutes after-

the fire department of this city. Im-
mediately behind the chiefs was the
Shreveport brass band, numbering
eleven pieces, with Captain Beix Al
len as leader. The music discoursed
by this band was most excellent.
Next came the fire companies, as fol-

Waco; Calvert hook and ladder com-
