WICHTEA DAILY TIMES, TUESDAY, JANUARY 21,1025
OF W-DELL
The Rev. ano. J. nen, vastor of
the Floral Heights Baptist Church,
look .the subject for ids sermon
Sunday night from the 15th chapter
or first Samuel. The sermon fol-
, f"saul, as you know, was king of
Israel, and the Amelekites had been
a thorn in the flesh of Israel for
years and years. They had harassed
them and robbed them ever since
they had lived In that country. God
. got tired of it after a while aad
said to Saul through Samuel, Count
your men and go yonder and utter-
ly destroy everyone: of them. I
want them wiped off the earth.” ,
“Saul gathered his men and went
out there and made battle, God was
with him and he destroyed every-
thing he did not want, but the
things that he wanted just looked
too good to him, dn the first place,
be saved the king. Agag. He wanted
to bring him down as a trophy. And
all these fat. sleek cattle and sheep,
they looked so good and pretty he
could not kill them, so he was driv-
ing them on home. Of course God
knew that. I think men sometimes
think God forgets and does not pay
any attention to them. God sent
Damuel to meet Saul and told him
that Saul was driving home those
sat cattle. Just as soon as Saul saw
Samuel he ran to meet him and said,
i have done everything the Lord
told me.’Samuel said, What about
the lowing of the cattle I hear?
Saul said. They are some cattle the
people kept to offer as sacrifices.”
(That is something I despise in any
man, to go and do something and

lay It onto someone else.) On ac-
count of bis disobedience he lost his
kingdom. ---------------------
“I tell you there are many men
who will lose their kingdoms be-
cause they will not obey the votes
of God. A sinner of course will lose
his kingdom if he does not turn to
Jesus, but Christian people, while
they will not lose their salvation
will lone their kingdoms hers if
they refuse to do the commands of
God. Saul loot his kingdom. There
are some here to whom I have
preached and yet who do not know
Jesus. His spirit will not always
strivs with men. After a time ths
spirit gets tired aad leaves men.
Must Give Our Account.
“I want to repeat, don't you think
for a minute that God is going to
allow you in the Judgment .to say
the other man did so and so. Every:
one must give an account to God of
himself, and not try to blame the
other fellow. Don't stand before ths
bar of God and any there were some
hypocrites in the church. There are
some, but I hold up to you a Savior
who to faultless. You cannot blame
the church: you cannot blame your
parents: youcannot blames a bad
start in life. Man. If you know
God, it takes a new heart and that
alone. Man must be made with a
new soul and a new idea before he
can love God. You can take a pig
and clean him up and put a bib on
him and take him in the parlor, but
the minute he sees a crack in the
door, out he goes and back to the
mud, for be to still the name pig
with the same heart. You must
have a better excuse than that 1
warn you If your excuse will not
stand before God, do not take it
there. Nine times out of tsa if you
can get a man to give up one pet
sin—it may be drinking or gamb.
ling or some woman—you can get
him to turn to Jesus.
“A man will come to you and say,
'Come on. John, let's go somewhere
tonight.' You rush to the telephone
and call your wife and tell her it is
a business deal and you will be out
later then you go out and have a big
time. But just as certain - as God
sits behind the stars, if you are
guilty of these things, the sheep
will bleat and the cattle will low.
Your wife will find out, and other
people will find out. gome of you
people who do know Jesus do these
things, but just when you cannot
afford to have it known the cattle
will low.
‘Some men will say, ‘I am as good
as you, are,” or “I am as good as that
man.’ "It in not a question of how
clean fyou are. It to an question of,
do you know Jesus? It to not a mat-
ter off whether you are a Baptist. It
to a matter of whether you are ac-
quainted with Jesus. You cannot
go to. God with am in your soul. It
must be washed by the blood of the
lamb. You must slay utterly. You
cannot just put away some of the
things You must at least do the
best you can to slay utterly. What
are you going to do?

Living Charter
Member Exchange
NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (--The New
York cotton exchange has discov-
ereg its last surviving charter in the
person of William 1. Black of Del
Rio, Toxas, who had been listed on
the records of ths exchange as dead
for half a century.
At the age of 82 Mr. Black re-
cently read that the exchange had
announced the death of its last char-
ter member and he wrote E. ll-
Bartlett Jr., president, to claim the
distinction of" being the only man
living who helped to organize the
institution in 1870. He sold his ssat
three years later and through years
of activity .In other lines of-busl-
ness had lost contact with the cot-
ton trade. 1
Mr. Black informed the cotton ex-
change officials that he expected to
round out at least a century of
living. “It is possible," he added,
“that I may some day in the future
get back into the cotton game."
