NEIGHBORLY SPIRIT — Mrs C A. Baker of Breck-
enridge holds a doll she dressed for the Abilene Good-
fellows. The doll, a blonde in a lavendar formal, will be
a Christmas gift to a needy Abilene child. Mrs. Baker
saw the doll in the Goodfellows’ exhibit at the West
Texas Doll Show recently and offered to make a dress
for her. The blonde miss was turned over to the Good-
fellows Toy Store Friday. (Staff Photo)

IN COLEMAN COUNTY
Welfare League Leads Fund
Drive for Old Folks Home
By HAMILTON WRIGHT
Reporter-News Staff Writer
COLEMAN, Dec 16 - The Wel-
fare League of Coleman has sent
out a Yuletide appeal to 5.000 resi-
dents of Coleman and Coleman
County urging financial support for
its Coleman County Old Folks
Home at 218 Lackland St
Presently the league is soliciting
funds to put a north wing onto the
fire-proof brick structure erected
two or three years ago. The pres-
ent structure has 18 guest rooms,
a half mile north of the Coleman
County Courthouse. It is probably
the only institution of its kind fos-
tered and maintained, by free-will
offerings of citizens. A leader in
the movement which made possible
the home is R. G. Collingsworth,
president of the board, investment
dealer, and president of the Cen-
tral Colorado River Authority here. |
All officers and directors of the [

KNOX CITY, Dec. 16 — A pro-
posed $200,000 bond issue for con-
struction and improvement of the
school plant will be voted on Sat-
urday by the Knox City Independ-
ent School District.
Election site is in the American
Legion Hall. Election judge C.
C. Hoge will be assisted by Claud
E Reed. Clerks will be J. T. Gil-
pin and J. C. McGee.
The issue would provide for re-
moving the upper story of the pres-
ent high school building, construc-
tion of additions on the east and
west of the building, construction
of a cafetorium, remodeling of the
present gymnasium, new furniture
and equipment, and possibly con-
struction of a dressing room at the
Greyhound athletic field.
10,109 Square Feet
Additions on the east and west
of the high school building would
provide an additional 10.109 square
feet of floor space, costing approx-
imately $130,000 The new con-
struction on the west would be
joined to the present grade school
building by a covered passageway.
New construction on the gymna-
sium would amount to 332 square
feet and the cafetorium would
have 3.800 square feet of floor
space. Size of the cafetorium might
be increased to 4,500 square feet
if funds are available, according to
Chas. E. Silk, superintendent of
schools.
About $30,000 of tht issue would
be earmarked to furnish and equip
the new classrooms and to refur-
nish and equip every classroom
that does not have new furniture
— from the fourth grade up, includ-
ing the colored school.
equipment. The present band
room would be converted into a
choral room.
If approved by the voters Sat-
urday, the issue will bring the dis-
trict’s total bonded indebtedness to
$357,000, which is within 7 per cent
of the total valuation for tax pur-
poses, and is considered a very
safe figure by the state and by
bonding companies, the super-
intendent said.
Average annual payments on the
indebtedness for the first 20
years will be $19,518, and for the
next ten years payments will be
$18,495.
New Band Hall
Plans call for the present school
cafeteria to be converted into a
band building, including one large
band room as well as several
smaller rooms for practice and
